How much is too much?

So im trying to shop around for a wedding dress and i found two that i just cant take my eyes off. One is from the 2008 Christina Wu Collection and the other is from the Melissa Sweet Collection. But they are both a bit over one thousand dollars (i know thats alot). Im planning to have a simple small reception but i still wanna look like a queen cuz i have the right to. Im gonna be the bride! Do you think that's too much to spend? But then again, its one of the most special days in a woman's life. im confused.

Well, you can look around at different stores and see if you like something that is a little less expensive. I know you can usually find similar gowns by different less expensive designer.

I think that if it makes you feel beautiful then you should get it. I spent over one thousand for my gown because I absolutely adored it.

who is paying for the dress? do they think it's too much? it all depends on your budget. I think if you have to ask, then yes, it is too much.

I fell in love with a couple Maggie Sottero dresses that were like $1100 and $1400. my parents were paying for my dress and my mom said that was way too much. and I didn't want to be like "fine, I'll buy my own dress" because I didn't want to spend that much money myself. so why should I expect her to?

In the end, I found a knock-off of one of the dresses at David's Bridal. It was a much simpler style, but it was also a fraction of the price ($400). I still felt beautiful and special in the dress, without all the guilt of how much the dress cost! And in hindsight, I think even $400 was a lot to wear on a dress I only wore for 12 hours, and I will never wear again. That comes down to $33/hour for the time I wore it!

I think you need to keep things in perspective. Yes, this is your wedding day and it should be special. But you are marrying a man you love and sharing the day with your nearest and dearest - it's already a special day. I think by all means, make sure you look and feel gorgeous, but I think that can be accomplished without an expensive dress. The day is special enough, and I'm sure you'll look beautiful in whatever you wear. Just remember that this is one day and if you find a dress that is $500 instead, you can put that extra $500 toward a down payment on a house or something.

$1,000 is not that expensive any more! Vera Wang dresses and other high end name brand designers can be from $7,000 and up. So I don't think a little over $1,000 is too much! My dress was $1,100 and with alterations, bustles, etc, it came to about $1,500. So when buying your gown, you do have to keep in mind the extra costs.

Of course, if it puts you into debt, then it's not reasonable......just like spending $50,000 on a wedding is unreasonable in my opinion..... But you're right--it is your special day, and you definitely have the right to be gorgeous in the gown of your dreams! The dress is the one thing that will always be in your pictures, forever! I say go for it!

I don't think $1,000 is totally outrageous. Its pricey, but not like $3 to $5-grand outrageous.

If it fits in your budget, then get it. If it doesn't fit your budget, shop around for something similar from another place.

I wrestled with the cost ALOT because I'm trying to trim my budget down as much as possible. I also have plenty of time (still have 18 months) so I took a shot and ordered from a seller in China off of Ebay. I had a great experience, only spent $219, the dress is fitted to me exactly so it won't need alterations, and the dress is better than anything I saw in the stores.

It depends on what your budget is and how much you can afford. A good rule of thumb is to not spend more than 5% of your wedding budget on your wedding gown. So if you are having a $20,000 wedding then spending $1000 sounds about right. If your wedding budget is less than that, then chances are that you will need that money for other things and you should find a less expensive dress.

Depends on your budget. If you really love the dress you should get it. It's your day and if you can cut money from other areas by doing it yourself then spend the money on the dress. My dress was 1200 and so we cut out money from a few other areas by doing it ourselves, ex. invitations, favors (homemade cookies decorated), dj (an ipod and a sound system). You can cut money in a lot of other areas so if you really want the dress and you love it, then get it.

$1,000 isn't THAT much. I think it's average. If you can get one cheaper it's bonus, but if you're stuck on the two just above 1K I'd say just get one. There will be some things you will regret spending or not spending money on at your wedding....You won't want to regret your wedding dress though!

As long as your budget can accomodate the dresses then go for it. If not, make changes in other parts of your budget or take pictures of the dresses to a bridal salon, they may be able to find somethng similar but cheaper.

Well do you mind paying over a grand for something you're only going to wear a few hours? I think thats the real question here.

If you can afford it, go for it! Sometimes it's well worth paying a few more hundred dollars for a dress you know is THE ONE.
