what is going on with these school kids???
i was wondering about something and maybe you enlightened folks can help me. why is it that when i browse the history section of answers, all i see is a bunch of kids that are asking basic and simple homework questions? are they just lazy or are they just plain stupid?
i too help when it is an obscure topic, but like some have said, how hard is it to do a little research on say the holocaust, or who's hitler nonsense. i also stand by my statement of these kids being lazy and yes stupid or dumbed down

The percentage of "people" on this site that are here ONLY to have someone else do their homework for them has easily tripled since last September.
When I first came here - there was very little - and they asked for help.
NOW - they DEMAND. They demand you provide the answer in specific forms and further demand sites that they will then cite in "their" answer.
If you are even a bit off point in your response they'll "Violate" you - which YA does automatically. I used to try to fight it - now I don't care. (So Scary!!)
They have the nerve to ask True and False and Multiple Choice questions - so they obviously have time...These take more time to type than to look up.
Some are stupid, but most are simply lazy. They type in their term paper assignment and then go out with their friends or whatever the hell they want to do. By the time they come back, there's usually enough info there all they have to do is put it in coherent form and they're golden.
We've developed a program that picks up "key words and phrases" and we run most papers through this to see what pops out.
Some teachers are too lazy to do this, so the kids get away with it.
I could, and have in the past, go on for hours. It disgusts me.
We spend a lifetime learning so we can teach it and these brats come here and some adult who wants to show off gives them the answers straight away. It makes me sick.
I WILL help them - if they've made an attempt. I enjoy it. But they have to try first, say please and not swear at me.
Is that so hard?
If you think this is bad - you should see them in the classroom. Fortunately, most of my students WANT to do well and I have a lot of AP kids.
Unfortunately, I have a lot fewer AP kids than I have that tell me to f-off. I'll stay after school - work through my lunch - anything.
The dumbing down of America thanks to "No Child Left Behind."

The ones who are asking serious questions tend to ask specific questions on more obscure topics. I answered on regarding what types of medicine would be available on the frontier of Canada duroing the 1800s. It's not a topic wyhich is easily researched unless you are already familiar with the topic. No sweat for me to answer.
General topics like "Who was Adolf Hitler?" and "Tell me everything I need to know about [insert general history topic]" I tend to ignore, or deliver a snippy suggestion, like "Google and Wiki are your new best friends".
Are we having fun yet, kids? Remember, before you ask a question, TRY THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!!

Now, I go to a private Catholic school, so everyone there is pretty smart. But my sister who went from the private, 35-people middle school to the public, 1500 person middle school, she said most people just don't care. There are some who are just plain stupid - but most are just lazy dumb*****. They really don't care - she says they're all just gonna admit in the army. Lol - dummies. But yes - we are by far the laziest generation. Our parents, and their parents, and all the way back they had to work their hind ends off ALL DAY. Kids and adults both. Now, we're all just lazy. WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON?!

Searching anything from the internet or just googling it, is easier than posting a question on Y/A.
They know this. They also know wikipedia, google and yahoo search engines. But some of them just do not like reading unless what they're reading is Harry Potter or Twilight series.
So, I agree with you.
I remember someone asking "what did hitler do to the jews?" and another "who discovered America?"
My tactic is very simple. If I understand that he/she made a little research on his own and still couldn't figure out, then I help, if not, then I just ignore. It is easy to distinguish.

I think society has allowed kids to totally slack. The internet is supposed to be used as an educational resource, but it's being abused to avoid hard work. That is our future ppl! I'm telling the truth when I say that scares me to death. Another thing is how the educational system has allowed immigration to slow down education. The kids who can't speak english need to be caught up, not the rest slowed down and backtrack because of it! Another thing, schools don't protect the kids anymore. The parents don't teach morals, values and punish kids for being heathens. Example: a 10 year old kid was taken to court recently and plead guilty to assaulting a classmate. The girl pulled the other child from the monkey bars and then proceeded to stomp on the child, breaking the child's' hip! What kind of home life did that child have to be allowed to have that kid of anger untreated? Another example of this is that group of teenagers who invited a girl over to their house and beat her up on video then, posted it on you tube. We have always had bullies, but, we do have therapy now, and cys services for kids who are abused.

My guess is just plain stupid, but I have very low expectations for kids these days. I'm curious why they say EXTREMELY EASY yet can't look at it and figure it out themselves, if its that easy why are you asking us. That and even worse is whats with these kids who want an essay quetion answered. I mean do they really expect someone to post a 3 page essay for them. I'm sure some of it is lazyness but there is no way all if it can be. I mean I'm not that old myself but still at my young age I look and kids and wonder what is going on with them.

Most are lazy (I just wonder how many history teachers browse through this section looking for their assignements), some are genuinely curious. You recognise the latter easily, their questions are interesting.

Welcome to No Child Left Behind!! We are making these kids do worksheets that are full of trivia and not understanding. What we should be doing is teaching why and something happened and what was the effect, not the answer to question number 5. It is sad, history isn't about the right answer it is about understanding and learning about why people do what they do.

well for one, i think that the word stupid is a tad harsh, but it fits. i can understand about having difficulty in finding the exact thing you are looking for, but i can do a search on a topic that has been posted when these kids can't seem to find anything on the topic. makes me think that yes, they want someone else to do the work for them so they can spend their time watching "american idol" or something else. its getting ridiculous. this is not a forum to find answers to homework, its for the gathering of knowledge.

I agree with you, but its not just in history it is in everything. People are too lazy to do their own research. I try to research the questions I have and then if I can't find the answer then I post my question.
