Backsplash for kitchen needs to be replaced. Any ideas?

The kitchen really needs to be totally remodled, but we have not decided to stay here long enough to justify the cost. So expensive ceramic tile is out. I read that vinyl peel and stick tile will work, but I am concerned about cleaning it.

Have you thought about beadboard paneling? It's inexpensive (compared to tile), easy to clean, if you paint it with glossy paint.

Peel & stick tile will work fine - but looks cheap & if you don't like the look when you're done, it would be a bear to remove. Have you considered tin tiles? Also can be costly though. Check with your local newspaper office. Our local newspaper office uses stainless steel type of templates for paper printing, then sell these sheets for very little $. It's thin enough that it could be cut with tin snips - and you could line the backsplash (printed side to the wall) using construction adhesive, and have an expensive looking stainless steel backsplash. Many tile stores also have clearance tiles at very reasonable costs and tiling is actually very easy. There are many online tutorials to walk you through it. You could hit yardsales for cheap brightly colored dishes and break them into pieces to make a cool mosaic tile backsplash. If you like the look of wood, you could use laminate flooring along the backsplash. My mother-in-law's house had vinyl flooring along the backsplash - it was a very outdated design, so I painted it with a primer and a terra-cotta color paint and gave it a white wash finish. Looks pretty cool - like terra cotta tiles, and it still looks great after 3 years! Good luck with whatever you decide!

Peel and Stick works just fine, clean as you would if they were on the floor, damp cloth instead of damp mop a little soapy water to remove grease
