LOL...I work in a toddler classroom and I have yet had a child turning two who did not freak out having everyone sing to them. It is such a traumatic thing to have a birthday and get to have a cake and then these people start singing to you!!!!

practice singing the song with the three year old...if he really does not like it then just place the cake in front of him and say Happy Birthday...and encourage others to do the same.

Though at 3 they like the attention more and generally you will have a child singing "happy birthday to me" for weeks after. Gage and see what he will tolerate...believe me it will not be the worst thing in the world if no one sings for the party or cake.

    Good Luck

My sister in law had the same problem with her son my nephew, he absolutley hates the birthday song. What she did was....My nephew loves thomas the tank engine so when it was time to sing happy birthday she just played the theme song from thomas. Maybe u could try his favourite song, or one from a favourite cartoon or something like Twinkle Twinkle..... Hope you find something...

Try the Captain Zoom birthday song; my kids loved it. It uses your child's name in the song. Try playing it in the car and around the house as back ground noise a week or so before his birthday. You can find it at www.captainzoom.com! Good luck!

I can feel for him!! I hate that darn song too!

We always sing "Close to you" by the Carpenters....you know it!!

Why do birds suddenly appear, every time, you are near...

just like me, they long to be close to you...

Why do stars fall down from the sky, every time, you walk by... just like me, they long to be close to you...

On the day that you were born, the angels got together, decided to create a dream come true...

And so on... my son is three and he knows all the words because I sing it to everyone of my friends and family on their birthdays!!

    - For he's a jolly good fellow

    or

    - Happy, happy birthday, from all of us to you.

We wish it was our birthday, so we could party to!

    or

    - I know some parents may not want to teach their children these lyrics but in the tune of the birthday song...

Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you.

You look like a monkey, and you smell like one too.

...That might get your son to giggle and forget all about how much he hates the song.

You could sing him the "Cha Cha Cha" version to the birthday song. It's getting very popular around here.

It's your birthday, It's your birthday, so have a happy day.

It's your birthday, It's your birthday, so have a happy day.

It's your birthday, It's your birthday, and that is why I say,

Have a happy birthday, and god, bless, you!

(god can be replaced with we, i learnt it in grade 2 at a catholic school)
