What happens at the first appointment?
ok, I found out 2 weeks ago that I am pregnant. Today is my first OB appointment. I am so excited and so nervous at the same time. I have three other children and should know this, but I honestly cannot remember. What is going to happen at this visit today? The babies dad is going to be there with me as well as my younger two children because I dont have a sitter. I know they will make me pee in a cup.....that happens at every visit there, but what else are they going to do??
Thanks for the congrats. I have yet to tell anyone except the father and doubt I will until I am showing.....as my family will be very unaccepting of this!
I am only in my 6th week. I doubt I will get to hear the babies heartbeat. My last pregnancy was a high risk pregnancy. Is there any chance they will do things differently because of that??

They dont do too much at the 1st appt. Probably do a pap smear to make sure things are ok. depending on how far along you are you might get to hear the babys heartbeat. And a blood test most likely.

I probably varies by doctor, but at my first visit, they did a pap smear and a vaginal ultrasound, had me pee in a cup, took my blood pressure, then sent me to the lab to give blood, there lab happened to be in the same office, then after the blood they gave me a bunch of prenatal vitamins to pick from, he wanted me to try different ones to decide which one I liked best, the next visit he wrote me the prescription.
