HELP! Who is responsible for our medical bills?

Ok.Here's the deal: the other night,me and my friends were driving home--I was a passanger behind the driver. We were making a left turn, when some idiot ran a red light light and hit us.His huge SUV was barely damaged, but my friends car is totaled. He said he was afraid that he would miss his flight,so that's why he ran the red.Anyway, my friend has car insurance, and so does the other driver. I don't have health insurance right now.The ER doctor said that the other driver is responsible for all our medical bills. Is he right?

the bill and paper work will be paid by the insurance of the driver you were riding with... and his company will go after the other person... i would suggest filing a complaint against the other driver.. for wreckless driving and other complaints.. this will serve as a basis if you wnt to file a civil suite.. do not sign any release to anyone and do not make a statement of this to anyone. no discussion.. except with your mother. ok dont worry about the insurance .. you are covered.. ..you went to the emergency room and what was apparent was repaired but youdont know what tomorrow will bring.. nurve damage. brain damage. anything. ok good luck..

    The ER doc is correct.

Since the other person ran a red light, he should be found at-fault. His liability coverage covers property damage to your friends car, as well as bodily injury for you.

Has your friend filed a claim yet? You want to file the claim first with the person who hit you. His policy should be primary. If your friend ends up having problems with the at-fault driver's insurance, that's when you can look to your own insurance.

If your friend has "Medical Payments" or "PIP" Coverage on her auto policy, this is also something that can be claimed.

Hope you both feel better soon.

The other driver (who ran the red light) is responsible for your medical bills. However, while his insurance company is investigating the accident, you may have to see if your friend's car had coverage called "Med Pay" or "Medical Payments"

They can pay for your bills in advance and then get reimbursed if the other insurance company pays.
