What material is more resistant to chloride attack? 410SS or 316SS?

I'm being told its 410 but I think 316 because its austenitic which I thought had higher corrosion properites than the martensitic grades (410)

316 does do better than 410, but it too may not be the best choice. Yes it is resistant to chloride corrosion, but it can be attacked by chloride stress cracking. If the components are highly stressed then the chlorides can cause cracking issues. If these are critical parts and failure can be dangerous or costly, then consider Hastelloy C.
