Does anyone know what this may cause?

I had a hemoglobin iron test yesterday and it was 16.9g/dl. Normal levels for a pregnant woman is 11-12g/dl. I was just wondering if anyone knows what may cause this and what harm it can do from being so high? I am 6 weeks pregnant and dont want to cause harm to my unborn baby or to myself. My prenatal vitamins have iron in them and I am afraid that this will cause my iron levels to raise even more. Also, I have heard from some people that high iron levels will cause preeclampsia. Is this true?? Please help!!

Your levels are high because you're taking prenatals. 16.9 isn't high enough to be dagerous. That's actually normal hemoglobin for a man. Some women just have higher than normal levels.

A high hemoglobin level is very normal in pregnancy. I had extremely high iron levels during my pregnancy also and although I was always constipated, my baby was just fine. Remember to drink lots of water and stay on a healthy diet. Not a low fat diet because your baby needs the fat, just cut down on sodiums, and sugars. Good luck, and if you're really worried, talk to your doctor about it, but I'd say your fine, and you're just a little nervous with your pregnancy hormones going all haywire. Just relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Your doctor will adjust your prenatal pills if he thinks you are at a risk. Good luck and congrats!

NO your levels are fine, its actually 12.8 minimum before you are considered anaemic, this does not mean that you should be this level!!! They say normall ammounts for pregnancy as it starts to drop as pregnancy progressess. There is nothing wrong with you you jus have healthy iron levels in your body
