'Misspelt' is a perfectly acceptable alternative for the word 'misspelled'.
You have not mentioned the context in which you find that people are harsh on incorrectly spelt words. If it be YA you have in mind, there are several reasons for misspelt words - some are understandable and some not. It is not possible for other members to correct such errors all the time, nor is it in good taste to comment on errors.
If I were in a school where I enroll myself to learn a language, then I expect my teacher to correct me if I misspell words. That is what they are expected to do, but today it becomes very difficult for even sincere teachers to keep correcting errors beyond a reasonable limit.

misspelt is an alternate spelling of misspelled.
i'm not harsh on misspelt words and I don't correct them. i teach English during the day so I'm not going to start doing it free on Y!A.

People used to, when teachers were able to actually teach and not have to only focus on the F-CATs, M-CATs, etc.
It really borders on how well you know a person as to whether or not you should correct their spelling. One of my pet spelling peeves is writing "your" when you mean "you are" which is "you're" as opposed to the word that indicates possession "your".
i.e. You're so silly with that wig on. (You are)
Your dog is do cute. (Shows possession of the dog)
Another is "too" meaning "also". Many times it is spelled "to" which is a preposition.
i.e. I am going to Disney! (preposition)
Some people are too dense for words (descriptive)
I want that shirt too (also)

Because people are quick to criticize instead of help, makes them feel better about themselves. There are also more good people, that visit YA and do help, no matter where you go in life there are those insecure ones who have to cut you down - just ignore them that is the best way to hurt them, because they live for a reaction.

Probably because they feel it's not their job to do so! With a wealth of information available at your fingertips and free public education, the person should take it upon themselves to learn grammar and appropriate spelling! There is a SPELL CHECK on Y!A...
