What is causing my back to itch?

For almost a year now, my back has itched almost constantly. There are no signs of a rash or inflammation. It doesn't keep me up at night and I only notice when I'm awake. Sometimes the itch is more severe than other times. At its worst, I get a tingling sensation. I've tried all kinds of soaps and lotions and nothing seems to help. Help!

Have you switched laundry detergent lately? New soap can cause that.

Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration can make your skin itchy.

Has it been sunburned? Skin peeling can be itchy.

Have you tried a moisturizing lotion? Something like Aveeno, which not only moisturizes, but also has a skin protectant in it will probably really help.
