Is it possible that my computer has a fast USB port and two slower USB ports?
Or is it just my imagination?

Depending on the age, yes...very possible. During the transition between the older and new technology, I saw many laptops that had several USB 2.0 ports but also had several USB 1.0 ports. Pretty much all (except for some generic built) systems now only sell with USB 2.0 ports.

I have a 6 port USB hub that I thought was 2.0 but it was 1.0 and kept getting pop up alerts every time I plugged something into it.
