  • Suspending gas and electricity while I'm away?

I live in Queens, New York. I'm leaving town for six weeks later this month, and I wonder if it would be possible to have my gas and electricity shut off while I am away. I have never heard of such a thing, so I wonder if it is possible or worth it? I ask because I suspect that I may get a more lucid and helpful response here than I would by calling ConEd directly. Thanks.

  • How scenic is the Vermonter train route?

I'm thinking about going up to Burlington from New York City for a weekend. I like train travel because the tracks often go through the wilderness, but on this route it looks like the tracks are pretty close to I-91 a lot of the way. If I go, will I be looking at gas station and fast food signs, or gorgeous scenery?

  • MLA format for a collection of plays?

How should I cite one individual play within a collection of plays in MLA format? Let's say I have a book entitled Three Shakespeare Tragedies and it includes Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear. I want to cite Hamlet only in my paper. Normally, Hamlet would be italicized as a full-length literary work; however, as part of a larger book, in this specific publication, it would be in quotes. I'm not sure how to put it on my works cited page.

Shakespeare, William. Hamlet (underlined). Three Shakespeare Tragedies (underlined). Ed. Humphrey Higglesworth. New York: Signet, 1996.

That seems wrong. This predicament is not mentioned in my MLA book or on their website. Any ideas?

  • French translation verification please?

I believe this says something to the effect of: "In this verse we learn that it is Don Juan who, to conceal what he's done, sets fire to the fisherwoman's hut. If she had lit the fire herself, she would let it burn without asking for help." If I am wrong, please disillusion me.

Par ces vers nous apprenons que c’est D. Juan qui, pour couvrir sa fuite, a mis le feu à la cabane de la pêcheuse. Si elle l’avait incendiée elle-même, elle la laisserait brûler sans demander du secours.

I assume any kind of dog called a retriever will fetch, but will any sort of sheepdog, collie, or German shepherd fetch?

  • Polish memoirs from the 60s or later?

I'm interested in reading someone's personal memoirs of living in Poland in the 60s, 70s and/or 80s. There are a lot of memoirs by Polish writers from the WWII period, but I don't know of any from later decades. I need something that's been translated into English. Any recommendations? Thanks!
