Other people ripping off your answers?

Has this happened to anyone else?

I recently answered a question, and about 5 hours later an identical (and I do mean "copy and paste" identical) answer appeared, posted by a so-called "top contributor". The person asking voted the other answer as best, not mine!

Has this ever happened to you?

Any thoughts, people?

Is this favouritism?

Makes you wonder how some "top contributors" get their status, doesn't it?

Update:

Lady Jane - it wasn't even a good answer! Rather sarcastic, and (shall we say) somewhat influenced by a wee drop of the hard stuff!

Update 2:

Timberwolf - I said "some" not all. I'm sure most people are honest.

    Hello Duncan,

Yahoo team works on each report, it may take time but they eventually do.

Keep in mind that they have on record all the times that we posted our answers and if you report an abuse for that matter you will win.

This happened to me and i reported with the details and the cheater's answer got deleted and i got the BA.

I don't think this has ever happened to me but I know that someone recently posted the same problem not so long ago where it was, as you say, a cut and paste job. That is sad, especially from a top con who obviously already has all the points and status that he obviously craves.

One thing though - it must have been a good answer :)

This has happened to me a number of times. I don't really care about the points (lost) but I feel that if you don't have the info you shouldn't copy someone else's answer. You'll notice sometimes, also that the person given best answer gave an answer that made no sense at all, while other answerers gave adequate or exact answers...obviously "friends"! There's nothing we can do about it.....I just stew to myself!!

There are at least two (2) people with TC badges in the Yahoo Answers category and several people without badges who plagiarize answers. They steal other people's work and try to pass it off as their own.

I know some were ripping off Betwixt and Between in the computer categories, too, so it's not just this category.

All we can do is report them and hope Yahoo does something.

No, it hasn't happened to me. I have never stolen anyone's answers, and I resent the implication that all top contributors are cheaters. An apology would be nice from some of your answerers.

Added: fat, I wasn't complaining about you, just some of the people that answered.

That has happened to me a couple of times, which included a TC, one user who answered first put ''i don't know'' as their answer, i was the forth answer, when i returned to the question she had copy and pasted my answer, which looked like i copied hers and she received best answer! i didn't report it but i should of its really annoying to say the least.

I agree, this has happened to me a few times, but the other thing that is annoying me is that this person is now getting best answer because of it and its NOT fair

I get more upset when a "top contributor" gets the answer wrong! Because of their status people presume they are right, now that gets to me! :)

Surely the person asking the question can see that you answered first.

i'm chuffed you spotted it too. i've got observed one guy copying and pasting my generally used answer for the attraction questions (with my very own own critiques and each little thing) as his very own. not cool.
