Which is more harmful to America; catholicism or fundamentalist christianity?
boltage..rampant pedophilia, for starters, interfering in politics, tax free status while making huge profits, retardation of science, warping young minds, conning poor people out of money, propagating, strife, hate , guilt etc.
And the westboro loonies...you see them as a boon to this country? They are the extreme example, but i've seen that mind set on here time and again..by people who think they are following christ.
St boniface...where does christ give an opinion on same sex partnerships? And what protestants condone them? catholics and protestants are both generally against it (clerical pedophilia notwithstanding) and it is one example of how they both harm this country...using non-issues such as this to divert people, and funds from issues like war, environment, hunger, education and failing economy.

Catholicism upholds old American values so how can it be harmful to America?
On the other hand, fundamentalism is nothing but bigotry. Fundamentalism has been at the root of most wars including the war in Iraq and terrorism. Fundamentalism is a deadly poison in human relations.
Let's compare Catholic and Protestant Fundamentalist beliefs and see which is harmful.
A Christian is one who faithfully follows the teachings of Jesus. Acts 11,26 defines Christian an "adherent" of Christ.
Based on this Biblical definition, many Protestant denominations are not Christian because they do not follow all the teachings of Christ.
Here are some doctrines, which many Protestant denominations approve of, which are clearly against Christ's teachings.
+ Pre-marital sex
+ Same sex partnerships
+ Contraception
+ Abortion
+ Divorce
+ Private doctrinal interpretation of the Bible
+ Protestants also believe in the 'once saved always saved' doctrine. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will go to heaven just the same even if you have committed a serious crime.
These are just a few unchristian and unbilical teachings of Protestantism. There are at least half a dozen more, which I did not list.
On the other hand, Catholics are Christians because we are expected to follow ALL the teachings of Jesus Christ. Of course, some Catholics don’t follow all Church teachings, that can not be avoided.
Challenge to Protestants: Give me one teaching of Jesus, which the Catholic Church does not follow. If you can find one I will re-convert to your faith.

Response:
The last link above approves of same sex partnerships. Sex scandals involving the clergy is not exclusive to the Catholic Church. As matter of fact, there are more abuse cases in Protestant denominations and public schools according to statistics.

You sure? I don't remember ever in US history people being burned alive, protestants and catholics massacering each other, religions being banned for not being the state religion like in Europe. Even the Salem Witch trials were during British rule and the Pilgrims left Europe to flee religious persecution. Oh and the US never had a holocaust. Mormons leave you alone if you are not interested, they don't believe in hell and never say youll burn if you dont convert, like JW and alot of the born again churches do. I was raised Catholic and my father was beaten by a nun in Catholic school and smacked across the face by a priest for breaking something. My grandfather was ecommunicated for marrying a divorced woman and my mother was kicked out of catholic school because my grandmother left her abusive husband. Dousnt sound very moderate. And the Anglican church is a mess right now and likely going to split soon with the more fundamentalist branch taking a majority of the church, while another part is petitioning to join the Catholic church. I'm American but live in the Netherlands right now due to marrying a Dutch woman. The Netherlands is actually pretty religious, the coastal areas are the more secular areas. while the inland areas everyone goes to church, mainly dutch reformed churches. Where I grewup in the northeast people pretty much only went to church for weddings, funerals and baptisms. Only immigrants seemed to have any interests in there religions.

How is Catholicism and Fundamentalist Harmful to America?
Give me an example for both
- Timothy ELv 41 decade ago
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH GOD~!!
BUT, there is loads of things wrong with religion. ALL RELIGION IS WRONG!!!! and anyone says that it isn't has not really read the bible from cover to cover, or is just ignorant.
I belive in god and I pray/worship in my own way, and I share my love of god with others sometimes...that's all he ever asked....he did not ask for some man on earth to corrupt his word and manipulate it to opress the people (church of england, holy roman church...etc) And he sure as hell didn't mean for the "church" to take advantage of people (tithe..etc) but then the reason ignorant people allow them to hoodwink you is because of the little clause..."whatever you dictate on earth, I'll hold true in heaven..." convenient isn't it!
Faith is fine. Religion, is evil.

Fundies; they're easily swayed, and easily deceived, or they wouldn't be fundies. They got Bush elected (TWICE) thanks to letting someone else do their thinking for them (look at a map of the "red" states, and a map of the fundie Christian states - they're pretty much the same), just as in their religion, and now we're ALL paying the price in any number of ways.
What other proof do you need?
- 1 decade ago
Neither. People who love to play "devil's advocate" are more harmful to the sanity and blood pressures of the American people.
- 1 decade ago
Neither. Besides, what teachings of Christ are so evil anyway?
I mean, I don't want a theocracy either, far from it. I just wonder what was so bad about Christ?

And you presume either are inherently harmful because?
Your a bigot, plain and simple if your going to make that kind of assumptions and prejudicial assumptions.
****wait why do I get a thumbs down for calling a bigotted statment bigotted but if i said it about someone making the claim that atheism was harmful to Americva I would get like 12 thumbs up (which has happened)?******

neither is harmful, really, unless Christians act hypocritically which drives many people away from Christianity. It's qutie sad.
