Which milk is better for allergic kids?
My son is 2yrs old and is allergic to the protein in milk. It's time now to get him off the formula he's been taking since he was borned (Nutramigen). It was not changed when he turned 1 by instructions of his doctor.
Lactaid it's out of the question cause is only lactose free but still contains the protein. I've been recommended soy milk or rice milk.
To all those parents out there with allergic kids, please let me know, in your experience, which one is better.
I appreciate all your help.

My daughter is also allergic to cows milk. Easy to digest has nothing to do with it and you should NOT give him goat milk because there is often cross allergic reactions.
Soy milk that I have found available is usually more nutrient rich then rice milk which is why that is why my pediatrician and allergist suggested soy milk. Also, it is now available in a range of flavors and forms from the local grocery.
I also recommend looking into FAAN (food allergy association network?). they were very helpful to me when my daughter was diagnosed with multiple food allergies.

My son was on soy formula until he was about 2 years old due to thriving problems. At 13 months I found out he was allergic to milk. After that I tried him on soy milk and he drank it. Then he was retested for milk allergies at 2.5 yr old and I was able to put him back on regular milk.
I would try soy milk or goats milk. Also ask your doctor for any recommendations.

For drinking I preferred vanilla flavored soy milk. For cooking and use on cereal I used rice milk. Soy makes things taste weird, I think. :-) Someone else mentioned goats milk. If your son doesn't have a cross-reaction to goats milk that would probably be better than soy or rice, nutrition-wise, I would think. I think it's gross though.
Have you had your son tested recently? My daughter outgrew her milk allergy just before she turned one and my son outgrew his food allergies within a few months after his first birthday.

Goats milk is actually easiest to digest. Soy is hard to digest and many people are allergic to soy.

I switched my son from Nutramigen to goat's milk when I weaned him from formula. Worked very well. Give it a try.
