  • Why is my garbage disposal loud when it is shutting down?

My garbage disposal is still turning off and on and still grinds food. It seems to run the same as usual when on. However, it is suddenly making a very very loud sound while shutting down. (There may be some shake to it also.) Does it actively apply breaks? is there something I can do?

  • How to value River and Joaquin phoenix autographs.?

I have a b/w photo autographed by joaquin phoenix which is signed "Leaf Phoenix" from when he went by that name. I wonder if it would be valued more or less than a photo with his current name. Any guess what that sort of photo would go for?

I also have two b/w photos autographed by his brother, one signed River and one signed River Phoenix. All three are legit, but I have no coa.

  • I'm looking for a fun science show for 8yo?

She loves Beakman's World, but was disappointed that it isn't being made now. She would actually love to send in a question to someplace. Any good shows on that you would recommend?

Something high energy, silly, but also interesting.

  • Is my husband eligible for unemployment while writing a novel?

My husband was recently laid off from a job as a newspaper editor. He also recently finished a novel we would like to shop around. Can he collect unemployment while doing this? He plans to also continue to look for jobs. What would happen if he were offered a job while collecting unemployment that we chose to decline while collecting unemployment? (For example, we would only sacrifice my good job and move if he found a good job elsewhere) Would benefits just stop or would he be required to repay benefits?

  • Origin of 'looking where the light is good'?

    Do you know?

the story of a man crawling on the ground under a lamp post. When the cop asks what he is doing the man says he is looking for his keys. When the cop asked if he had dropped his keys there the man says no, but that is where the light is good.

I have heard this as a story about doing science experiments that may yield results even if the experiment isn't exactly what you want to do. Does anyone know the origin of the story? I seem to recall it has an old history (before electric lights?)

    Thanks!!

  • Do you think an itouch would help with organization problems?

I have a very hard time with keeping track of appts and contact numbers and to do lists, etc. I am considering getting an itouch. Is there decent cheap/ free apps for me to use for calendar and to do list stuff? Anybody use it that way with any success? I don't want to spend the money if it is just totally not useable for this.

Though my kids will enjoy the game apps...

We are looking to buy a used honda or accura. Is there a rule of thumb about which is more important age or mileage? for example a honda civic 2001 with 44k vs a 2005 honda civic with 119k. Is there an age or mileage that it becomes a big issue?

  • Can you recommend a nice campground between NYC and montreal?

My family and I (two girls 5 and 8) are going to drive up to montreal for a summer vacation. We would like to find a pleasant campground about midway Between nyc and montreal that we could stay for a few days and camp/ hike/ swim. Ideally it would break up the trip into two smaller pieces and also be a fun place.

we would definitely want a place with flush toilets/ showers/ and probably a camp store/ playground etc. We tent camp.

Also any good advice about coming back by way of Niagara falls? (places to stay or avoid etc)

  • How to remove stuck wires from outlet?

I am replacing an outlet for plugs because it was loose and my vacuum plug was always falling out of the wall socket. I have th power off to the socket and removed the plate and the actual box with the sockets. The wires are attached by a screw and stuffed into little holes in the back. Is there a trick to removing the wires from the holes? I unscrewed the screws as far as they will go, but they are still stuck in and I could only get one of four loose. Do I just pull hard? is there something to push or pull to release? I am a rank beginner so if you have a link to a video that would be awesome.

  • Do High School seniors where you are graduate early (before school ends)?

Where I live seniors graduate in late May rather than in mid June when the rest of the high school students finish. They have 2 weeks less school than anyone else. Is that true where you live? Please let me know of the state, county and about when your classes end.

  • My neigbor's child got hurt at my house?

I feel terrible. My neigbor and her two kids were over playing at my house. My 8yo has been doing a sewing project and somehow the 9yo girl next door stepped on the needle. All the kids deny taking the needle out of the spool, but obvoiously I should never have left it out on the table where the kids (4,5,8 and 9) could get to. I gave the little girl some ibuprofen and helped the mother get her to urgent care when we couldn't get it out. Now the poor kid will possibly need a tetnus shot. My daughters thought of wrapping up one of their stuffed animals and we wrote a get well card.

What else should I do? They haven't acted mad, but I feel very very guilty. what would you do?

  • Any advice for eggless crabcakes?

My daughter wants to try crabcakes and she is allergic to milk and eggs. Any advice about how to make a crabcake without any egg or mayo? I can substitute soymilk for milk and soy mayonaise for mayo if needed (we usually don't keep that on hand)

    Thanks!!
