There are many wonderful seaside and lakeside towns in New England. If you're not a winter person the winters are pretty long and sometimes harsh in upper New England. If you like driving you'll be doing a lot of that since some places have limited taxi and bus services. I live in a suburban lower New England town that has a couple of lakes and I love it here.
