Why does Canada not exist in the Australian media?
A while ago I asked this question in anger when Foxtel cut an ice hockey game to 60 minutes when it had advertised it for 90 minutes (which is still cut, since a game lasts longer than that). One of the answers attacked me, asking how often Australia is in the Canadian media. The answer is that it is not in there a lot but it does rate a mention from time to time, whereas Canada barely exists here. Australians are forever saying the rest of the world's media ignores them, but they do exactly that to Canada. It is a shame, considering that they have more in common with Canada than perhaps any other country. I was out of line in my angry comment in my earlier question, but I do think it is a valid question. Today's Toronto Star carries a favourable report on Australia at this URL: http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/424416
Thought Bandit: Every one of those countries gets more coverage in newspapers here than Canada does, yet Australia has far more in common with Canada. In fact Australia has copied many Canadian ideas---multiculturalism as a term and as an idea came from Canada (NOT Al Grassby!), federal-state government conferences, just to name 2. I don't expect TV programs about Canada, but some relevant news, i.e., news about Canada relevant to Australia. Instead all you get here is bears on Yonge street (Toronto), the equivalent of kangaroos on George Street (Sydney).

The bottom line is not many Australians are interested in Canada and there are obviously not that many Canadians here to make it worth showing special programs for them.
I'm sure all the Vietnamese, Thais, Indonesians, Nigerians, Italians etc that are migrants here would all like to see more about their own countries too but if the majority doesn't want it there's not much incentive to show it.
I agree Foxtel should show what it advertised it would show though.

a lot of people have been sent or exiled to Australia from the united kingdom, subsequently familial bonding is greater. Australia is the final frontier to many and subsequently romanticized as subsequently. Canada is a sprint too sedate like the united kingdom for romantics, i think of
