Do you often make hockey references?

How many times a day do you normally make a reference to hockey? Saying stuff like "Oh that man is as tall as Chara!" ot "That man is as short as Marty St. Louis!" Etc. etc.

I ask a question like this because I've realized I do it a lot. Like today for instance.....I'm a very tall person. I'm the tallest girl my age I know of. Well I was helping one of the teachers hang stuff on the walls for something and there was one I could not reach.....there was a class going on and it was very quiet....all of a sudden I was like "Dang it, where's Chara when you need him? He could reach this...." The whole room gets quiet and people are like "I don't get it...." Similar things have happened to me all day with hockey references.

Update:

Heavy.....Ah, well I make references all the time and no one knows what I'm talking about! People around here aren't well educated with the NHL they think the Pittsburgh Penguins is the only team out there.

Update 2:

Heavy.....Ah, well I make references all the time and no one knows what I'm talking about! People around here aren't well educated with the NHL they think the Pittsburgh Penguins are the only team out there.

Update 3:

Update 4:

^^^Man, that posted two more times than I wanted it too, sorry. =b

Update 5:

No dirt......long time no see. What it's been about 2-3 months since I lost saw you. (It's me Mrs. C!)

Copas......hahah. :) "Nope, never"

Update 6:

LMAO Nips! You're the leading contender for best answer. I like the Mike one.

I make references to people in this section when I message with my contacts! LOL for instance:

    1. Pulling an Erica- means chewing someone out, then apologizing profusely and making them a contact all in a day

    2. Pulling a Copas- Writing something that makes people have the need to change their underwear!

    3. Tuna'd- Well, we all know what Tuna does to newbies and Homers.... YOU HAVE BEEN TUNA'D!

    4. 288'd- Shut UP! Its a Dead Horse subject!

    5. Getting Loblaw'd- You are the target for his attack for that day, and probably deservedly so. It has happened to many of us, and its water under the bridge the next day.

    6. LITY'd- You think you have the right answer, you check back a few hours later and LITY has made your answer look a rookie that is heading to the minors.

    7. Mike'd it up (Avs Fan)- Freaking out after a win and making a QUESTION with 200 exclamation points within it. (IE) OH!?! OH!?! Did you see Sakic???? OMG!!!!!!?!!!!! It was amazing!!!!!??!!!!! continued for many more lines....

    8. I got Bill W'd- Blocked... doesnt apply as much anymore, as we lightened up on him and he has unblocked us all. But nonetheless, its still a reference.

    9. I Homes'd- got on real drunk and typed something that made no sense when you read it the next day.

    10. Went ZATA- answered a question with references to my home team, even though it wasnt part of the subject!

    11. NIPS'd- tricked into looking for something that I asked that is not really real, or something that is real and you dont realize it cause you have been NIPS'd before..... hence, the Galkin question! Or the Holmer for Bertuzzi trade question!

    12. TBL'ing- trying to find out something so badly that you ask it in 5 sections!! IE- What was that song they played with 2 mins left in the 2nd period? Then, asking how to contact the DJ for the Penguins in another category. Then asking how to contact Mellon Arena to contact the DJ... rotflmao

    13. They went Jenni- knowing someone is on, and hasnt answered a question yet, so you wait...wait...wait.... then BLAM! The answer appears (and it includes Cleveland Steamer in the answer) rotflmao

    14. He is Jay K'ing- When everyone else is answering with sarcasm (the Who will win the Cup questions and such)... figure out what team the ASKER likes and answer with want they want to hear for a Best Answer even though you completely disagree with your own answer.

I could list more, but I dont want those people to know that we have a saying made about them, it might hurt their feelings as I dont know them well. Think Homers and Bunnies!

  • I make references like that on more than a daily basis, however, the people I know who do like hockey only follow their team and don't know it well enough to understand what I mean, They always end up going "Huh...?" and sometimes I reference hockey in general ( It's fun to do when playing basketball in gym )

** Come on, Viktor! Move to New York!!!

*Sigh.* No one cares about hockey where I live, I cannot make any references. :(

Kate - Haha, the people here in Cleveland not only don't know anything about hockey, but they all dislike it excpet for a handful of people. I need to move.

Nips - Any references for me? How about I heavysoviet'd - means to stay up late, because I'm such an Insomniac!

Nypengwin - Soon, soon! I cannot stay in Cleveland!

I just got Nips'd - Best Answer robbed from me! Kind of like Lity'd.

I do all the time, but at home its just natural we are all hockey people so it's just part of your daily language. As far as at work and in public, im sure I do and I don't even know it, but most people around here wouldn't even catch it, but my friends would/do!

I talk hockey all the time so it's nothing new to me!

I do, although most of my friends don't follow hocky, so they're kind of wasted on people who don't get it. My friend was complaining about being short and I was like cheer up you're taller than Danny Briere, and she was like "huh" and I was like oh look there's a puppy. I told one of my boy friends that he was as built as Rod Brind'Amour and I think that he vaguely got it so that one was ok. But yes, I know what your talking about.

I make them ALL the time... a lot of time I associate broad themes of life with the game of hockey, or see something completely non-hockey-related and say, "Oh, that reminds me of..." (something hockey-related)

    Hi

Copas the whole quote is .." I had to go five hole, after she closed down the back door play."

    Or

My friend set me up for with a great one timer. He passed her off to me and I scored, but never shot on that net again.

    Thank You
