Best carpet shampooer for Dog owners?

I'm looking into buying a shampooer to take care of some of the "accidents" our dog has had on the carpet or furniture when she was a puppy and I can still smell them. I already have a black light and tried using a spray cleaner so I'm looking into a decent extractor/shampooer. Any ideas?

Update:

Nope, any bodily fluid will glow in a black light. :) Not sure why kids use them at parties, pretty sure there are stains they don't want people to see!

The spot bot works great on those little opps spots!

But for a big job I recomend the Bissel 2x Pro heater!

That's the one I have and it works great!!

ADD: To the above poster the Little Green machine is terrible! It doesn't suck up the stuff worth a hoot! I had one and then gave it away!

I also use the Spot Bot on *accidents* (of all kinds with 5 dogs and 3 kids under the age of 11 lol) and 3 to 4 times a year, I had a pro cleaner come in and do my carpets. I haven't found a carpet cleaner that works that well in my house.

  • I own a carpet cleaning company....so I have everything under the sun for cleaning up after animals ( ha ha and those messy humans too). I would suggest if you want something that works great .....don't get anything you can get at all Wal-Mart or a Target...they have very little suction and don't last long. ( test the new Bissell product "Little Green" ...it wasn't very good but ok for the price. I have a professional spot removal machine....it was six hundred dollars but I've had it for three years and works like the day I got it......You can sometimes find them for a good price on ebay..........they can truly a great investment.....they are good for cleaning small and medium spots and you can clean all your furniture with them. For cleaning high price rugs and your carpet....I suggest getting a professional to do those....don't use a rental machine....like "Rug Doctor" .....they don't have green products to clean carpet with and the carpet stays wet for way to long....I've had people call us after they have used one....had to redo all the carpets ...because it did such a poor job!!! You can buy a portable machine to do all carpets ...but alot of work to do yourself and costly...we have one that was $3500.00......worth it for us but not your average person. .....I know someone gave Bonzie12 a thumbs down ...but she is right about the vinegar and water (equal parts)!!!! WORKS GREAT!!!

We have a Bissell Proheat and it works pretty good. Our cat used to have issues with urinating on the carpet, but to be honest...I'm with the previous poster...it's so much easier to just get rid of the carpet. If it soaks down into the pad...the smell will likely never go away. When we bought our house we removed what little carpet was there. Now we have hardwoods and tile...accidents are a piece of cake to clean up.

I've got the Bissel Little Green Machine with the Turbo brush, and I love it. It's good for those small accidents but wouldn't be good for a large area.

First I suck up all the pee, then I spray some Spot Shot on it and then I clean it normally with the Pet formula for the Little Green Machine.

We bought the original "little green machine" when we had our mixed breed- she had become incontinent (bless her little heart)- the vet suggested the "heat panties" for her- well, she would just flood right though those!

We ended up just ripping up the carpet and putting down linoleum tile- figured it was easier than fighting her on it.

We now have the new pet spot bot, I think is what it is, the one where you push a button and it cleans up the mess while you're gone- it works pretty good- you have to use a really good cleaner, though- in order to get it really clean.

The Bissell "Little Green". We still have ours..it's from freaking 1996! But it's small, and still works great. They cost $60-80, but they're worth every penny.

I bought a Eureka. It passes the stain and smell test on my champagne colored carpet. I don't think I really want to go the blacklight route.

Did you know that women have a heightened sense of smell?

Petsmart sells Pet or Simple solutions, its suppose to take the smell out so the dog cant smell where they went. I know you want a machine, this is good for small clean ups

Well, I'm going to get the Bissell "Little Green". It's small and portable, and appears to be quite lovely. However, since I don't have it yet, I don't have a great rave review. But it will be great for the couches, etc.

BTW, I thought only cat pee glowed in black light????????
