Overall best midsize SUV help!?
Im getting exhausted! Im looking for something fairly recent I will go back until about 2006 most b/c I will buy in '09 but Im researching early. I liked the VOLVO XC90 but found despite its safety its unreliable and pricey to fix. The VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG appealed to me also but it was so heavy the fuel economy is terrible even for an suv. The GMC ENVOY was nexy but I sasw how super fast it depreciated and wondered if thats worth it. I didnt like the dash of the ACURA MDX and Ive heard BMW X5 owners say it isnt all its cracked up to be. At this point Im confused. I have a growing family so a compact car wont cut it sorry. Fuel economy is important but not #1, exterior and interior appeal is up there along with safety and reliability (a fair amount I know I will have things that need repair) and owners out there?! Help!

Lexus RX 400 Hybrid
Lexus RX 350
best mpg
Toyota Highlander Hybrid
Hyundai Santa Fe
Mitsubishi Outlander
Toyota Highlander
Buick Enclave/GMC Acadia/Saturn Outlook
Ford Taurus X
the Ford Expedition is a fuel hog but it's huge and holds everything, if you get the El version you can put stuff behind the 3rd row seat.
don't count out the Lincoln navigator
if you tow or go off road the Lexus GX is the only choice
avoid the BMW's and VW Touareg
the GMC Acadia/Saturn Outlook/Buick Enclave all have full size usable third row seats.

I agree with you about the MDX interior, but I still would suggest it.
The Acura MDX has excellent ratings and reviews, it's reliable, it has great resale value, and it's great family car. The older body style and the new body style both would be a very good choice.

I'll consider taking a strong look at what Mazda has to offer.
Mazda CX7 And CX9
forget which one won the Motor Trend or Car and Driver SUV of the Year.

Take a look at the Lexus. That's the one I like best. Lexus has a great record for reliability. The fuel economy is pretty good for a vehicle that size.

The 2008 Lincoln MKX. It received a top safety pick in its class and gets up to 25 mpg. http://www.lincoln.com/mkx/home.asp
If you want to go cheaper, there is the Ford Edge, which is pretty much the same vehicle with the same mpg's and safety features:

They both come with a voice activated system called SYNC and a vista roof.
