How should I get ready to play DB on JV?

I'm not exactly big, I'm just over 5'7" and 135 lbs. I'm running track right now (finishes after this week). How should I prepare to play and compete for a starting spot in the defensive backfield? I've been benching regularly.

work out continuously, not just bench but squat power clean push press military press incline bench curl ups bend over rows etc. also run hills and do alot of agility drills. runs stairs for quick feet and back pedal alot. back pedaling has to become natural for ya.

do alot of agility drills and work on your change of direction and patience is extremely important in db work you can't bite on every route

and defense is a whole different mentality you must want to destroy the offense
