    I have no idea why they put in a point system. Its probably just a way to rank people. Like, make people interested in answering questions in order to get up to higher levels.

    Points are like your money here, you have to earn and save them so that you have something to spend.

    Points will increase your level here, so earning points is a must. As your increase your level, you'll enjoy more features and abilities.

    points are for getting a higher level and being trusted more and getting more benefits from the yahoo answers community.
