    oh flippin GAG me.

and NO they are not "purse dogs"...they aren't tiny dogs. they are anywhere from 10-20 lbs.

IMHO no dog should be in a purse....they should be on a LEASH walking on their own 4 legs, sniffing the grass....like a normal dog SHOULD!

Source(s): owned by 4 dogs, and my grandparents have always had a Rat Terrier over the years, (Ralph, Ralph II, Ralph III, and Dolly)
  • NO, rat terriers do not make good purse dogs. Much more thought should go into choosing a dog than whether or not it fits in a purse. As a matter of fact, that should never even cross the mind of someone planning to get a dog.

Edit: I need a designated driver. I've reached my drink limit for the day.

    ROTFLMAO.

Rat terriers are NOT purse dogs. They require way more exercise than most of the "purse" dogs out there. Rat terriers aren't all that different from Jack Russell Terriers. Can you imagine Eddie (from Frasier) in a purse?

They do, in general, like clothing, though.

Rat terriers are small but very high energy dogs. I don't see this breed as a kind that would sit still for riding around in a purse all day. They seem a bit too big to be purse dogs as well.

I doubt very much that most Ratties will put up with that. Most Rat terriers are 15+ pounds - they range fairly widely in size, with a Decker being the largest at 25+ pounds. They are bred to hunt and appreciate an active life - plan on Agility and clicker training at the least. Lying around the house eating bonbons may not be in the cards for your dog - terriers are very active and need mental stimulation.....

  • Rat Terriers in purse= 3 drinks

No dog is a "purse dog". Dogs should have their four paws on the ground. They need the exercise and stimulation that walking gives them.

That being said, Rat Terriers can get as big as 25lbs.

I think this calls for 4 shots, how about you guys?

A dog is not an accessory, and rat terriers and all other terriers are very hyper. Your dog will do fine on a lead, and only needs a sweater if it is outside and super cold.

No dog is a purse dog. All dogs need to get exercise, have proper training, walk on a leash, and not be treated like an accessory.

No, definitely not. They are too big to put in a purse.....usually around 13-18lbs. (many are bigger...they are solid, muscular little dogs)

Plus, they are hunting dogs...they would hate being in a purse...they rather be running around in the yard looking for small rodents.
