can I install my own hard drives in a ps3?

just wondering if it is possible to buy a 40 gig ps3 and then install another larger hard drive from somewhere else. If so, how does it affect the performance and warranty?

Most 2.5 inch 5400rpm laptop hard drives will fit in a PS3. It does not void the warranty (the PS3 manual even shows you how to do it).

Performance should not be effected. You can apparently put in 7200rpm drives as well, but it doesn't make a significant improvement in loading times.

Yes, you can install another Internal Hard drive in any PS3.

Just make sure that you get a SATA 2.5 inch Internal Laptop hard drive like this one:

If you install another hard drive in the PS3, it will not void the warranty. The PS3's user manual even tells you how to switch out the hard drive.
