running a 220 appilance on 110?
My son-in law is running my daughters brand new dryer on 110.He removed the 220 cord and installed a regular cord on it.
I don't see any danger in it but,I do worry it will shorten the life of the dryer.Does anyone know if I'm correct in this?
yeah, less than a week and we had to replace the heating coil and it took forever to dry.thanks I'll show her your answer so she'll believe her ol' dad now !

There are a few full size dryers that are convertible to run on 120V or 240V. However, cutting the voltage in half reduces the efficiency horribly on these models. If your dryer does not specifically say that it can be run at 120V, it can't. You will cause damage to the dryer, waste a lot of electricity, and g o crazy waiting for clothes to dry. Tell him to get an electrician to install a 240V line before he destroys the dryer.

This is a major fire and electrical hazard! Life is precious. Shut breaker off and remove the 110 from the wall pronto! The 220 cord is made of a thicker or higher gauge wire with much more insulation than a 110.

It will not get very hot, and will probably burn up the motor. Because it is overloaded with only half the power needed to run the way it was designed. It is worse than disconnecting four plugs on a V-8 engine.

Big NO, This will not work, it requires 220 volts. 110 volts is only half, unplug it immediately.

i've never heard of that, if the motor is 230v it will burn it up, otherwise it would probably be ok but not recommended.
