Can I work as a forensic scientist if I have a record?

My instructor told the class that if we have anything on our records we would not be hired by the state. Because we would not be credible witnesses for the state. I got into a little trouble about 9 years ago when i was 25. I stole some money from an employer (500) and provided beer for an underage person. Should I look for another field of work? Please dont be mean, I have never done anything bad before or since then.

It is very likely that you would not be hired, your instructor is probably right. Now, I say probably, because if they were misdemeanors and your record has been clean they may take that into account, MAYBE. Also, some forensic scientists actually start as police officers. There are some police officers who made mistakes and got misdemeanors and still got their jobs. Contact the dept you want to work for and ask them. there are so many what-ifs, it's hard to give an accurate answer.

Yeah, when it comes to government work, you need to have a squeaky clean record. A THOROUGH background check involving investigation of pretty much everyone you've ever come into contact with is done before employment. Check usajobs.gov for the exact detail investigation done.

Check with the agency you intend to hire on with.
