allergies and cats?

My daughter and I are allergic to animals. I believe it is animal dander, but never been tested. I react badly when around cats. My daughter wants a cat. Are there any cats that are hypoalergenic? She saw a hairless cat, I believe a sphinx.

There are cats which have been genetically engineered to not produce the chemical which humans can be allergic too but they are VERY expensive.

Whatever you do, make sure to get a short air.

You might also want to try visiting a doctor and finding out the cause of the allergy. For some cases there is medication you can take to prevent an allergic reaction.

Theres no such thing as Hypoallergenic cats so thats not going to help you out.

I'm super allergic to animals especially cats I have 5 cats and do animal rescue i also i have 4 dogs and foster dogs as well. I has Asthma and hay fever but if you really want a animal that bad you just suck it up and after a while your just so use to it you don't even has reactions anymore. But i know its your daughter who wants the cat. If shes younger she might not take care of it or will get tired of it with in a few months then you will have to do the work if they are older then its up to you really if you should get one there are hairless cats but they will produce allergens. Also some people even react more with sphynx then other cats when touching them because of their body oil is all there. If you really do decide to get a cat Just remember not to let it on your bed or in your room, Vacuum a lot, Clean your air filters, and just wash your hands after you pet your cat and don't touch your eyes or face. Female cats produce less allergen then males. Make sure you spay or neuter. Wash your cloths a lot. Some people bath their cats I personally don't but it helps wash away body oil which produces the allergens. See a doctor and get tested first sometimes its not the cats your allergic too.

I am highly allergic to cats, but I got two back in December and it only takes about 3 weeks to get used to your own cats dander.

After awhile you'll just stop sneezing and having runny eyes. That's how allergies work. You build up a resistance to something you're constantly around. I had one long haired and the other was short haired. Either way I got used to them.

Get a cat and enjoy it! They're so much fun.

Source(s): I took an allergy test and it turned out I'm allergic to everything under the sun. I won't let that stop me from living.

Sphinx cats can still cause allergies in those who are allergic to cats. You may want to see your allergy doctor and verify what is the source of the symptoms.

You should ask your doctor because there might be an allergy shot you can take, and you might want to get an allergy test.
