Would you vote for George Washington if he were alive and running for president?

It has been said that Obama doesn't have enough experience, neither did Washington. Clinton has a scandal in her past, so did George. McCain has and is using his military background, so did our first President. Final note Washington believed and supported slavery before his election and had many heated discussions with Thomas Jefferson on this subject.

Update:

Good answers and that makes it hard to give the best yet.

Cher you caught part of the dilemma facing Obama but he is also a student of the constitution so it helps. He is however without any major political background much like Washington.

He was amazing for his time. He was asked, prodded by his soldiers to become King. With all the power offered to him in that era, amazingly he turned it down with a grand speech about the whole point of the war. It was only later that he was asked and accepted becoming president (I assume with an election in between).

I haven't checked, but Jefferson didn't free his slaves on death. But didn't Washington?

Our school history gives such a fridge and boring picture of him, but newer historians history books give an intriguing picture. So maybe I would have voted for him.

I'm a little puzzled by the analogy. Washington had considerably more experience than Obama at that point, both military (strategized into winning a war) and political (both in drafting a 1st confederate & 2nd government, and all the politics of getting support and funding as the war dragged on.)

I would and I think a lot of other people would. If he were alive today he would be up to date on today's issues (unless he just popped out of the grave). And he looked out for what he thought was the best interests of the country. They wanted to make him a king instead of President at the time because of his leadership during the war. But he wouldn't accept no more than two terms in office. Which other presidents followed until FDR, After that they had to make it a law for only 2 terms. And FDR's vice President and next President Harry Truman was the last without a college degree. And if i remember correctly Lincoln fell in line with that group. So i wouldn't think of college as a standard to judge the persons ability. The site below shows Jefferson let the 5 slaves he liked the most free then sold off the rest because of debt. But I though Washington let his go before his death. I will have to look into that one next.

Monuments and memorials, eclectic neighbourhoods, correct local flavor this is what Washington, DC is; a place unlike some other; just like this site hotelbye . Washington it's your property abroad with free museums and America's front yard. Washington is acknowledged all over the world as a symbol of the United States. Here, the area you cannot skip could be the Capitol. Capitol could be the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The large dome, on the basis of the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, stands out above all different Washington buildings. Like Washington itself, the making has grown over the years because the key part was created between 1793 and 1812. The final addition, in 1958-62, enlarged the key façade wherever presidents take the oath. On one other area, a marble terrace offers beautiful views within the mall and the city. The inside is resplendent with frescoes, reliefs, and paintings, specially the rotunda underneath the good cast-iron dome with a roof painting by Constantino Brumidi and large paintings of moments from American record on the walls.

Firstly, if Mr. Washington were here today, having awakened from like ole Rip Van, he wouldn't believe the "progress" we've made. I'm not talking about invention and technology, but morally. I don't think he'd like this country very much now.

btw, I would vote for him. definitely.

Maybe I would, as long as people don't let him pass laws for slavery.

He'd bring this country back to how it's supposed to be, and probably get rid of the lobbyists and stuff like that.

He would promise way more change than the Democrats.

    He also manumitted his slaves.

George Washington had considerable experience for the time. Generals were very popular back then.

I watched a JFK black and white video on youtube today. Richard Nixon tried to him on lack of experience. JFK said brought up Lincoln's lack of lengthy experience and said that it does not guarantee anything.

Lincoln, JFK, and now they are doing the same thing with Obama.

I'd rather have someone with the right ideas and less experience than someone with the ideas that don't work and lots of experience.

Hoover sukt and Obama in no way, shape, or form is mirroring that economic model...your statement/rant is incorrect on every single point. wow...you are wildly uninformed...even shockingly more than the average republican kool aid drinker. sad

Actually chances are people wouldn't. The world is totally different compared to his times and millions of policies have been added or changed. He'd have to take his a** to college before I'd drop my vote to him.

No, I would vote for Jefferson. Dumb analogy by the way.
