Feeling drawn to God . . .?
I am hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.
I didn't have a religious upbringing, I wasn't baptised/christened as a child.
However, since becoming a mother I have been feeling drawn to God, and that feeling has become stronger lately. I even pray from time to time now.
I would like to attened church, but I don't really know anything about the christian faith.
I am also painfully shy, and am really nervous at the thought of going to church and meeting new people.
What is the best way of learning about the christian faith?

Since you are shy, you might try talking to friends and attending church with one of them. How different denominations worship varies in the extreme.
You might try visiting your local library and checking out a few books on Christianity to investigate the various denominations. See which ones appeal to you.
I'm a Catholic. I love my church and all the people who go with it. I also love the Orthodox church. Something about their monks just fascinates me. But I think if I weren't Catholic I'd be a Quaker. I love Quaker spirituality. Having read a number of books on the subject.
Edit: Oh! Amanda makes an excellent point! The bible. (whacking myself in the forehead!) Find a translation that appeals to you. Start at the library. They'll have many. The Good News and New Living translations are very easy reads. Just know that Catholic bibles have more books in them than Protestant bibles. Some of the most beautiful. Book of Wisdom for instance. A favorite of mine.
Edit 2: FYI buddy. Hitler was NOT Catholic. Many people who are not Catholic are married by priests. How do you know the priest wasn't threatened with death? Many priests and nuns were hung in the streets during Hitler's reign.

Wow! What a privilage that you feel the drawing of the Lord. I don't know how much you know about the Christian faith; however, the reason why this is such a privilage is because without God personally drawing us to him, it would never happen. The Bible says, "10 As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; 11 there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one." Romans 3:11-12
Unless the Father draws him, ""No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. " John 6:44
We were all born sinner, eternally seperated from God; however Christ, God's son, came and paid the price for our sin, being perfect and blameless, so that God could see us as blameless and we could inherit the kingdom of God.
What you need to do is call out the God to save you. Believe that Christ was completly capable to take the punishment that we all deserved by being to perfect sacrifce. And repent! The complete turning away from your sin. God will grant y ou grace and repentance and give you the supernatural power to hate the things God hates and love the thing God love. You will literally be a NEW CREATION in Christ!! "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17 What good news! If you are really interested in learning about the Christian faith and being a TRUE follower of Christ, I have referenced some great GOD CENTERED resource sites for you! I pray that you find all the joy, peace, and restoration in Chirst Jesus!!

Firstly, religion is something that comes from within, no matter what is your faith, it is your belief, and your spirit which connects you to whichever God you aspire to.
If it is Christianity that you want to learn about, the best place to learn is from the bible. You can even get the video/ audio bible nowadays for example of you tube, which makes it slightly easier!
If you do feel you need the guidance of a church, maybe it would be a good idea to go along with someone you know who is a Christian, or to join a group of like-minded people.
It is normal to feel shy about these things, I also am extremely shy when it comes to meeting new people, but think of what a great achievement it would be to do this! It might also build up your confidence by showing you that you really can do it, as well as giving you the gateway into Christianity that you have been looking for.
Good luck! x

If I were you I would read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. It outlines Christianity from the beginning and tells you what it means to be a Christian. It's an easy read so even if you know nothing about Christianity, you can understand it without trouble. It's a really beautiful book.
The center of Christianity is a belief in Jesus Christ, so to be a Christian, you must believe that he is the Messiah and the son of God. Talk to God, ask Him for forgiveness for how you have sinned against Him (we all do it, even Christians) and talk to people who are Christians. If you go to a church, find the pastor, tell him/her your situation and ask for some guidance I guarantee they'll help.
God Bless you and I'll be praying for you.

Mummy... I am a Christian who takes his faith seriously and I am very shy myself . I don't attend Church right not but that's only because it's hard to find a good bible based Church where I live. Not because I don't want to attend one. Your welcome to email me with any questions you might have about the Christian faith... Also I will post a very good web site called got questions.
It is an excellent site that answers just about anything you can think of concerning the Christian faith and gives answers about other religions ( from a biblical point of view) as well.
If you don't see the answer to a question you might have after searching for it on their site. You can post a question and they will email back to you an answer based on the bible...
Hope this helps you .. God bless you !

that person is wrong.
how could we be here if there wasn't a God?
I mean seriously. I am having trouble at the moment too. I haven't been to church in quite a while, but I read my bible almost everyday. I feel comfort in reading Psalms, Ruth, and the book of Esther. The books of Ruth, and Esther are about women and they make me feel important.
I know there is a God out there. I just know it!!!
I mean how could this universe be created only by the "bang theory"? Someone would have had to create us.
And the thing is, we aren't supposed to know how God came to be. It is a mystery and will stay that way. We aren't supposed to be able to grasp who or what he is, but only that he is a superior being.
He cares for us.
You may not be able to see it, but in the little things, in all the good things of this earth are from God.
Such as you finding an answer to a test,
or leaving earlier than usual from your house in which if you had stayed you would have been killed by a tornado(the Pitcher, Oklahoma tornadoes).
God is here, you just have to look for the little things.
Trust me!

Adult baptisms are completly normal if you want one. Also, if you want to be a christian, it is more favorable to be one that isn't a Catholic.
Try Episcopalian or some other type of Christian. All we do is go to church for an hour then have a meal together.
If you're shy, have a friend introduce you to the church. After a baptism, just go to church when you feel like it on Sundays or Saturdays and make som friends while you're at it.

Read, read, read....this is always the first step in any search for knowledge. Also, do not go to Christianity because it is readily available. Go because you feel that is the direction that you should go. Church is a social phenomena and is not necessary in order to have a relationship with God, but again, if you feel like going that way, go.
Good luck in your search!
