What would I be entitled to?

My son was killed in Iraq last month. He put me on his depenants list two years ago and never removed me.

There's a posibility I qualify for monthly benefits. The problem is that I'm engaged. If I got benefits, would they stop if I got married?

I know the wifes' benefits would stop if she remarries, but I'm his Mom and I was wondering if the standards are different.

Update:

I'm not really hoping for monetary benefits. I'd rather get married. I just wondered. My CAO is setting up an appointment with the VA..

yes you will lose the benefits if you remarry. the Military's responsibility to you ends when you remarry, regardless of what kind of dependent you are.

To get the best answer to your question, ask your Casualty Assistance Officer, if you have one assigned to you (all Primary Next of Kin will have one assigned). If not, call your local Casualty Assistance Center. These folks are charged with helping families handle the death of their Soldier, by assisting with all paperwork and benefits. They will know exactly what benefits you have. To find your local Casualty Assistance Center, click the link below.

You can also try contacting Army Long Term Family Case Management with benefits questions:

I dont know about that, I would head over to goarmy.com. They have live chat with recruiters, they will be able to help you out. Or if you want you could call the local recruiter. Im deeply sorry about the loss of your son, I lost a cousin in Afganistan. I'm currently enlisting in the Army Infantry so i can personally make those bastards pay. For my cousin, and for fallen heros like your son.

I think that you're going to be disappointed, placing you on his dependents list got you access to the Post Exchange and Commissary. Any possible monthly benefits will go only to the next of kin as he listed them on his SGLI insurance forms.
