Barney - no. Teletubbies and Caillou - yes. Simply because I couldn't stand the shows myself!

Yes. I remember years ago, when Charles Barkley hosted SNL, and he took on Barney in a game of 1 on 1, and he beat the hell out of Barney. I laughed my butt off.

He is a tard, and is bad for children. He should be banned from television. Now you know why alot of kids start of slower than we did. Because they watched Barney.

Yep. I am SUCH a mean mom!!! I've only let it be on the TV by total mistake and will change it if I see it is on. My kids are entranced by the music and the bright colors of Barney and his friends, but the show just bothers me.

I totally destroy their young lives every day and am mean to them because I monitor what they watch on TV, have access to on the internet, teach them respect and morals, the list goes on and on. I am told how "mean" I am on a daily basis...they are 8, 6, & 3 and obviously outspoken when they can't do everything they want to do. Guess that means I'm doing a decent job LOL.

My daughter will not be allowed to watch Barney when she's older. My teen years were plagued with horrible Barney nightmares. In one dream he would chase me down the street singing his horrible song. In another he merged with the Count on Seasame Street and was flying through the air like some sort of Barndracula. They were horrible. I'm not kidding about this either, I am almost 30 now (and an elementary school teacher) and still vividly remember these dreams. Just say NO to Barney!!

Geez Louise, is he still around? Forget Barney. Ban it from the house. Kids can easily get 'addicted' to another character. Just keep showing them something else like Winnie the Pooh. I had 5 sons only one hated Barney and still does. I lived through it, but it sucked. That was almost 15 years ago!

  • I don't let my kids watch cartoons for the most part. None of them are kid appropriate anymore. My daughter watches educational programs, and ones that teach about places and cultures, science, astronomy, history, things like that. She loves watching Animal Cops, as well as the regular Cops show. Those are her favorite, as are emergency workers anywhere and everywhere we go lol. She is 3 and a half, and very educated beyond her years. I think cartoons are a waste of time..and really don't teach anything positive any longer.

For the first 3 years of her life we didn't even have cable by choice. We read dictionaries, her books, science books, math books ect. prior to that. I am seriously considering dropping the cable service as there isn't anything worth watching on other than what we do now. Which is more effectively taught by literature IMO.

EDIT** We do have most of the disney films...I don't have a problem with most of them.

Barney is an educational show for children. There, they will be able to learn how to deal with other children, they will know how to count, how to sing and dance and how to appreciate things around them.

    Some people wrote:

    "Barney promotes being gay..." ???

    "Barney is a Communist...??"

All I have to say is that with all of the violence, killing, sadness and horror in this world, allowing your child to watch Barney should be the least of your worries.

Source(s): Barney will NOT make your child "dumb" or "gay" or a Communist" Come on, people!

    Please!

Let the child be a child, we watched shows like "The Road Runner" couldn't get any dumber than that! How about Captain Kangaroo.... It is truly harmless and I have cared for little people for 26years and many of the children I have cared for are grown and have great careers and they watched Barney.

i have 4 kids 20 19 and 17and 13 yrs and they all adored Barney!! they have no everlasting bad effects.....lol even know to this day they wont ever admit to loving the big purple dino....lol but theres nothing wrong with him i think he sings nice songs that kids love and he is just a charactor that kids enjoy in genral and he doesnt promote violence nor drugs or cussing etc etc so i guess it depends on what the parents choose in the long run but i think Barney rocks!......lol I forgot to add i love the fact that he has a mixed version of children on his show also i think that teaches kids we are all alike and can get along no matter what our race!

Barney is very annoying, but I did let my kids watch it because they loved it.

But your daughter will NOT be scarred for life by not watching it. Television of any kind is not a necessity in a kid's life!
