no phone line, what's the best way to connect to the internet?

We're moving to a new apartment in Las Vegas and need internet access. We won't be using a phone line for the first while. We have a couple of modems, and wireless capabilities, but I want to know how to connect to the 'net. Can I just use a $10-$20 ISP? Do I need to go through one of the bigger companies? I do want to keep the connection up to about 3-4 mbps. it's been suggested that I have an upload speed of roughly 250 kbps. What's the best way to do this without paying an exorbitant amount of money?

Update:

I'm kinda hoping to find a way to keep the cost under $50. Is that even possible, or am I just going to have to live with it?

    A good satellite connection will equal a 256K DSL and get above 35KBytes/download speed. Don't worry about cloud interference either, as Vegas has never seen a cloud.

    Cable is about the only way to go. You could try satellite, but the upload speeds are just as slow as Dial-up and I think you actually still need a phone line for that.

    You can connect through a cable line going into a cable modem then into your computer. You do have to subscribe to cable internet but it is way faster than dial up.

    Either cable, or something like an EVDO card from Verizon, (or other company.) Both will probably be around $50/month.

    Cable or DSL - most phone companies will now sell you DSL even if you don't buy phone service from them. Anything else will never come close to 3mbps.

    using mobile or satelite connection
