noise cancelling device?
A few years ago, I read about an electronic device that could cancel the noise from your exhaust. A microphone would pick up the sound from under your car and generate a sound wave that cancelled the sound.
Anyone know about this? Does this work? Is it available?
I have a goal- I'd love to have something that would cancel the noise from *other* cars. Not exhaust, since I like that sound myself, having grown up on Cherry Bomb glass packs. Nope, I want to cancel the obnoxious sounds from people who are convinced I will enjoy *their* choice of rap. That's all.

sound cancellation is available for earphones, and are made by several companies.
For something like a car exhaust, it would take a lot of power and a lot of speakers.
BUT, car exhausts today are very quiet, so what do you hope to gain? I can barely hear a car going by -- as long as it has the stock muffler on.

This is anti-noise and works on noise that has a repetitive waveform. One problem is that position affects the phase required to cancel the noise.
Noise canceling earphones to wear on airplanes work fairly well but are about as good as it gets.
