Over the last 10 years, what was your team's worst "non-deal."?

We all have stories about horrible trades, busted prospects and "Carl Pavano" contracts that killed our favorite teams. But is there a deal that they almost made, but DID NOT that you still complain about?

For example, the Dodgers had a deal in principle to get Vlad Guererro from Montreal, but Fox was trying to sell the team at the time so they wouldn't close the deal.....I often wonder how the decade would have been different if Vladdy had donned the Dodger Blue instead on Disney Red...

Just outside your ten-year limit: Davey Johnson leaves the Orioles (1997).

He was named Manager of the Year within days.

The Bucs were offered Cliff Lee and several prospects this past winter by the Indians for Jason Bay. Lee has not only dominated the AL so far, but Bay has been hovering around .280 and has lost some speed. With Lee in their starting rotation, the Pirates would be much better (highest ERA for starters this year in MLB). Cleveland is thanking their lucky stars for not making this trade and the Buccos are kicking themselves for turning this trade down.

I'm going to say, the Braves not bring in Ken Griffey Jr. in either '06 or '07. The rumor was flying around, and Griffey had stated he'd waive the no-trade clause to play in Atlanta. The Braves have used a platoon in left field for the past few seasons, which I think would work to Griffey's advantage because the regular time off could keep him healthy.

The Phillies could have had Jim Leyland as their manager but chose Charlie Manuel because they were afraid Leyland wouldnt be committed enough to stay with the team.

The Mets not signing A-Rod after the 2000 World Series. He wanted to come here and it seemed like a no-brainer. But Steve Phillips didn't want to deal with Scott Boras and Freddy Coupon didn't want to spend the money.

  • Mine is the Twins not re-signing Big Papi and watching him go on to be an All-Star and great clutch hitter. If he stayed in Minnesota who knows what would have happened to Boston...
