Question for the Christians, especially those that are "born again"....?
I see postings in this forum and hear people out and about talking about how they were saved through Jesus when they hit some particularly low point in their life or had committed some terrible act, and they go on to say that they prayed to God for mercy and he forgave them.
My question is, how do you know he forgave you? When people talk about this happening they make it sound as if they had a conversation with the guy next to them, as if God said "no worries, you're forgiven".
So how did you come to the conclusion that you were forgiven by God? Did you actually hear a physical say so or was it more of a hunch you've had?

Oh trust me, if you are forgiven, you WILL know.
Doesn't mean he'll physically walk up to you and be like "You're Forgiven, Dude".
It just means, you'll know. The cleansing feeling you get. The tears you cry. It's obvious. You'll know it.
Not to mention, it's also promised that if you repent, mean it, and put your faith in Jesus Christ, you will be forgiven.

I wasn't at a low point in my life. Actually, things were going exactly the way I wanted them to. I believe I am forgiven because the scriptures say that I am. God has never spoken to me directly. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether I've been forgiven or not. I still belong to Him and trust Him to do what is right. If I am condemned on judgment day I will have fully earned it. For now I'll continue trusting and obeying to the best of my ability and leave the rest up to Him.

It is a physical, audible statement by God. That's why He gave His Church the holy Sacrament of Reconciliation, otherwise known as "Confession". I confess my sins to God, and He, speaking through the priest He has empowered for that ministry, tells me "I absolve you of your sins". And I leave knowing I am forgiven because God has just told me so.

His word the Bible tells me if I ask forgiveness and mean it and am sorry for what I did wrong, I will be forgiven. No "voices in my head" no "message in the clouds" or anything mystical like that. I simply believe God's word since he cannot lie.

Faith is based on God's Word, the Bible.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that WHOSOEVER believes in Him should NOT perish but have eternal life.

I believe what the bible says in that if we confess our sins to God and repent we are forgiven. So we take the bible as gospel so to speak.
We know it because the bible says so. Then our burden is lifted.

Not only that, some of them believe that their sins are erased from existence... I think they need to believe it in order to not have to deal with any guilt.
