Is McCain's age really a legit issue?

He'll be the oldest guy elected to the White House and if you look at pictues of past presidents, you can't help but notice how much they age during their term. Clinton aged 20 years in his 8. Bush has done at least that much. Bush 41 added 10 years to himself in just 4 years as presient. If that math works out McCain will like an 80 year old when he runs for reelection.

Age can be an issue. Yes there are a lot of senators and judges who do well getting along in years but even then they do not have the stress and responsibilities of president.

Perhaps it is not as important as some of the political policy issues but it can play a role in how you feel on a person's ability for this particular job. For some it is an issue - for some not. Just as for some Obama being relatively fresh in politics is an issue and for others it isn't. It all depends on how you look at it.

I don't think it is a legitimate issue at all. Everybody is looking at numbers, but there's something lots of people don't seem to piece together. McCain is only about 10 years older than the largest voting block this nation has ever had...the Baby Boomers. I wouldn't call most of us all these names you see flying around about McCain...senile, decrepit, etc. Start ragging on McCain's age and before long you're going to have some very angry and indignant boomers.

I don't think McCain would run for a second term, anyway.

    No,

Read todays obits, you will see people of all ages have passed away. Additonally we also had here in America a celbration for the last WW1 vet still living (in the U.S.) He is 107.

Moses was called to the desert at 40 spent 40 more there and the next 40 Leading the people.

The V.P. position is a very serious one. Kennedy was young when he was President; however he was assinated, so that is why McCains age doesn't concern me. Is it a little more likely for him to have health trouble - I think statissically - yes, but then again we are back to, any of us, at any time!

You would think that riding in a car with a Senator and being young your life was pretty secure, Mary Jo!

Seems to be an issue for some

    Believe it does not matter

He will chose a younger VP to combat this concern

And not just because support Obama

Age should not be used against Mc Cain...is a losing non-issue and yes the Oval ages people and need to get elected first before re-election (grin)

Considering that Senators/Congressmen and the President get the best of the best regarding medical care i really dont think age is a aspect for any of them. We have congressmen and senators who have served up to 100 years old-so i dont think having a President in their 70s or 80s is a issue.

The Presidency ages you big time. He seems to be cancer-prone. It could be an issue if he does not pick a good VP.

Edit: Reagan was having memory problems (early signs of Alzheimer's but this was kept from the public) when he was President. Woodrow Wilson had a bad stroke and this was kept from the public.

No ones seems concerned that Ted Kennedy is 74...why is it if you're a Congressman, age doesn't matter? Strom Thrumond was how old? Oh, what about the Supreme Court that are in there for life? No, I don't think age is a factor...character and integrity are more important.

And then again - I see a lot of young guys that look so skinny and pale, they look like they could kick the bucket anyday now. McCain obviously comes from good genes - his 92 year old mother is pretty spry and active.

Don't forget Obama's confession to his liking of crack-cocaine. That causes a body to age and can cause serious brain malfunction that cannot be repaired. So I'd say - they're even.

Hey...age is just a number. McCain will be a one term president. Let's hope his VP is a good one.

He will be 76 when he runs for re-election. I think it is a legit issue. I plan to vote for him in spite of his age.

Add: I just read a medical article on aging. Healthy active people genrally start feeling the effects of age (so as to change life style) at around 75 years old.

Add: Who is to say what is not a legit issue is. We all have the right and the responsibility to take anything that concerns us into account before we vote.
