Has anyone got any advice on joining the British Army?
I've already applied to join as an Avionics Technician. Can anyone give me any hints, tips, suggestions, thoughts on the job itself, and just general information on what I can expect at every stage along my training?
Many thanks

Don't listen to everyone telling you not to. I'm training in the Royal Artillery and it's the best thing I could have done with my life. True, pay isn't great at the start, but when you get promoted it starts to rise.
One of the best things you can do is get fit. You may well already be, but everything will help you just that little bit more in the intense first five weeks of your training. Mainly just be yourself and be friendly - they like it if you smile a lot (and have very clean shoes!). And they will see through you if you try and be something your not.
Most things will come to you when you start your training. Just go with an open mind, be prepared for a little hardship at the beginning, and think about what a great service you're doing (and how great you'll look in your uniform ; ). )

Ollie,
When you join the Army be prepared for many changes in lifestyle. You will be given seemingly pointless tasks to perform, at times you'll be treated like a child and you will be expected to face these things without complaint. Initially it will be a bit bewildering, but stick with it and you'll soon make sense of it all and start to enjoy it.
You'll meet people from various walks of life and some of them may well become lifelong friends. Whatever you do, wherever you go, you'll be among similar minded people so enjoy the experience and the comradeship which is unique to the armed forces. Nowhere in civvy street will you find people who ask and expect so much of you, nor will you find people who will give so much in return.
Approach everything with an open mind and good spirit and you will have a great time.
Good luck for the future and remember, you are joining the best army in the world!

well the trade your going for isnt actually on the frontline so you got nothin to worry about, theres more chance of being killed on civy street. dont listen to people on here they dont know what there on a bou. pay isnt that good to start with but everyone starts at the bottom, an the money gets good. you'll do 12 weeks basic training first (phase 1) then your trade training (phase 2) and also gain your driving license and the chance for your hgv, pass out then get posted to battalion were life starts, you'll have the chance to do a variety of courses to gain nvqs and the oppurtunity to go abroad an the army operates every were in the world. phase 1 tends to be hard depends on how you look at it, goin from civy to soldier its called the breaking in point, after six weeks they let you do what eva, go on the lash on the week ends all sorts. be the grey man no 1 likes a smart *** and most of all enjoy it you'll make a lot of good friends. http://www.armyjobs.mod.uk/jobs/Pages/JobDetail.as...

interior the historic previous of our monetary woes the militia have a extra valuable intake of latest recruits than at different cases. the main reason is that the final public who've a poor training or come from disadvantaged aspects have little potentialities of any employment, you on the different hand have a extra valuable possibility of a job outdoors of the militia. you will might desire to settle for that starting to be a member of will mean going to an lively area of conflict which includes Afghanistan. in view which you have had a choose for the army it rather is a good selection for you in my view however the trepidation you sense over telling your mom and dad is yet another ingredient altogether. If any of my infants needed to connect the militia i does not be satisfied as we stay in an especially distinctive international to that of the 1960's and 1970's while i became growing to be up. The militia interior the early 80's became a good occupation selection, yet our international has replaced and the political propaganda is rife which forgive me for asserting yet maximum childrens your age the two don't understand or do exactly not difficulty with. Being interior the militia on the instant skill you will maximum possibly see action despite in case you meet up for the minimum. you may desire to make up your very own suggestions and your mom and dad might unlike your selection in case you do circulate yet like maximum mom and dad they may help your determination. If i became you i could refer to them approximately your concerns over employment and your concepts. you'll be able to correctly be shocked by skill of their solutions. wish this permits and terrific needs to your destiny.
