Hi. Looks like your computer is running with stupid six or eight-legged bugs!

These are the best antivirus and antispyware that i've ever had:

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic (Free)

    http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Fre...

(Avira is better than AVG, based on my experience. McAfee and Norton are the worst ones, so don't ever trust them)

    Spyware Doctor Starter Edition (Free)

    http://www.download.com/Spyware-Doctor-Starter-Edi...

(Spydoc is my lifesaver. when I had a horrible virus once, this one has been the only solution. Spyware Doctor is kinda system hog, though. Running it requires a lot of RAM and uses a big deal of resources on CPU. I suggest disabling it after every use)

    Update these two programs regularly.

    Also, download Smitfraudfix

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

    and also Kaizer Virus Killer

    http://www.pinoyspy.net/node/4754

    (download link somewhere below)

They are DOS-based applications, but worked very fine on my computer! Don't be afraid using DOS applications, just follow the instructions and everything will be fine. In the Kaizer Killer, all you have to do is to double-click the application and it automatically removes most viruses in a heartbeat. Just use them in Safe Mode (to start in Safe Mode, press F8 a couple of times before the boot logo appears, you will be prompted to select one of the Startup options, and choose Safe Mode)

The programs detected the viruses that has not been detected by the two GUI programs.

Use Mozilla Firefox as your default browser (because it's absolutely the best browser ever) and always remember to update Windows for system stability.

Hope this works for you. :)

You're brave!!! but very much on the right track trying to do that manual deleting.

The thing you had was a common thing called Smitfraud, easily found by virus programs. But you might have deleted something it had hooked into that the system needs.

First restart the machine in Safe Mode (press F8 while restarting) and select Return to Last Known Good Configuration. This should take you back to before you did the deleting. The deletions will remain, but the Registry will go back to an earlier time.

IF then the machine will work in Normal mode, download these good free genuine programs: Avast is an antivirus, with separate real-time monitoring modules for Internet, P2P (limewire) and Email, so you need only load and use memory for the one you need right now. Ad-Aware is the original specialist for removing malware that gives you advertising. Spybot removes hijacking type viruses and stops anything from a few thousand known evil sites. Run all three in full scan mode (from Safe Mode) then run CCleaner to remove any bad Registry entries still left behind (it also gets caches, cookies and other internet temporary stuff that virus stubs sometimes hide in).

Do all the actual scanning in Safe mode.

If the machine still no good in Normal mode, you will have to reinstall your WIndows from the original CD. Just install it on top of the old one. This saves your important registry settings. Then run the scanners to get rid of the rubbish.

When all is fine again, set up Avast (from the tray icon) to run the basic checking module ALL the time. Don't forget to turn on other modules as you need them.Run all 4 of these programs about once a week, as scanners, to keep your PC clean and healthy.

Boot in Safe Mode by pressing F8 while your PC is booting. If you can't figure out the timing and the windows screen loads... restart... and HOLD the F8 key till you get an option for Safe Mode.

When you boot into safe mode goto RUN from the start menu and type, "MSCONFIG"

Under the first tab you start at... "Startup Selection" Pick "DIAGNOSTIC STARTUP" and then click APPLY and click OK.

    Reboot your PC.

You will get a dialog box when you login to windows normally. Click the checkbox and then click on OK.

    Goto: http://www.zonealarm.com/

Click on Security Suites and download it. Install the trial version. Reboot your Pc... when you get back up, choose to Continue Trial. Select No to Virus scan... why scan without an update???

When Zone Alarm opens, click on Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware and click Update Now.

When updated... do a complete system scan. Let your PC do it's business for a while and come back in a couple hours. It needs to do a full system scan to fix any anti-virus/trojan/spyware issue you may have if that is the problem.

You can choose to remove Zone Alarm after it's done by uninstalling it from the Start Menu option "Uninstall" How ever I recommend you buy the program. It's very efficient! It will remove the "FALSE" antivirus. Sounds like another case of "XP Antivirus" which stores itself on your computer as XPA.exe and will run ads on your PC all day.

FYI: Deleting something off of the start menu has NO bearing on a file on your Operating System. All of the start menu icons are shortcuts in Exception to the games menu... they are shortcuts but interactive enough to remove from your PC should you delete them. Those are the ONLY programs.

I do not think you got rid of this virus. It still might be in your registry. What I would do is 1st get a legit antivirus program and run in safe mode and check for any virus. If you can't install any programs go try into safe mode. If you still having problems, restart your computer and run your xp cd and do a repair that will do the trick.

Try using your System Restore, buy using this program it will restore your computer back a few days or more before this problem started. After you restore your computer then run your antivirus program . Make sure that your antivirus program is up-todate. Good Luck

It seems that while deleting files, you deleted some system files or files required to open these documents. I would suggest you to repair your OS or reinstall it, if anything else does not work for you.
