Start up small buisness suggestions.?

I graduated college last December and I'm already to hating my cubical job more and more everyday. I know I want to own my own business, but I just can't find anything that has serious growth potential as well as a reasonable start up cost. I seriously go come up w/, research, and ultimately throw away 3-5 ideas a week (usually due to dreaming too big). Its pretty frustrating right now so I'm just looking for some suggestions that I may be a little more do-able in the near future. I'd prefer it not be a franchised based operation, but I'm still open to the idea. Oh by the way I'm in the US economy dump called Michigan.

Update:

I'm not talking about starting some cheesy mlm scheme 'business' either. I think most of you understood that, but I thought I'd at least add that note.

Also I'm not talking like dirt cheap business, just ones that won't take me years to get investors to buy in.

Check out the book "Millionaire Maker" by Loral something or other. She lists hundreds of small businesses with examples and goes into detail on how to make them work. If nothing else it's inspiring.

Also check out the Millionaire Blueprints - it's a magazine out of Texas that details exactly how others have done it and are doing it. I personally like the teenage blueprints - even though I'm in my thirties....It's not too smart (uses real language not overy technical) Plus, you'll run into stories that make you say "I could totally do that better".

Otherwise, start by listing what you are good at. List what you are bad at - so you know where you'll need help. Then grab some buddies and have them make lists. It's always better to do it with friends. You'll have support built in. Going it alone makes it easier to quit....

Take the skills you and your friends have and start brainstorming. My husband has played around with the idea of starting a "secret" war games paintball club. People would pay a membership fee then him and his friends would send out a special "code" to let people know when and where they would be playing. Membership includes 12 games a year....

Once your creative juices are flowing....you and some friends can make just about anything work. Remember - McDonalds serves Billions Daily! So does the internet.....

after high school i started my own jewelry company... Now at 22 i own a jewelry mfg. in LA and about 15 employees... i have already begun working on 2 other companies (sorry cant share those ideas just yet) point is start of with something you have knowledge about... stick to what you know

I was a good creative artist in school and i loved jewelry covered in diamonds and that's how i came to find myself in the jewelry industry...

I started off with friends and family then moved on to bigger things in the community... then sure enough made some friends with rich people who introduced me to people who have banking connections and got myself loans and here i am designing and producing my own jewelry...

its a lot of work and if you don't want to be stuck in that cubical then start being a salesman... and sell yourself about the ideas you have... we cant tell you what to do... you have to go out and do what you want to do... if you want it that bad you wont stop at anything to achieve it..
