Is this a cute idea for a photo for our engagement announcements, or is this dumb?

My fiance and I are both very creative people and are into art and photography and unique things. For our engagement announcements we are including a photo. Our friends had a funny photo in there's with them holding a knotted rope in their mouths, we want something funny too. I wanted to have the picture set up like one of those photo strips you get from the booths with the 4 pictures. One of them would be of us, the others would be of animals in love, like 2 puppies in one, 2 lovebirds in one and 2 chimps hugging in one. Then I would put some quote on the bottom about love, which I havent found the exact one yet. My mom is throwing a fit saying I am not sending out animals as a picture and it would be an embarrassment. She is always critical, but my brother said he thought it was dumb too. What do you think? Is this a cute idea or is it dumb? We just dont like the typical studio shots with no personality.

Update:

We would have our picture be the center shot and the other animals on the sides so it would still focus on us

I think that is an adorable idea. I know that if I got one of those I would think it was very cute and totally creative. I think it would be best to do something that shows your personality rather than just a picture. I think with the right quote it will be really cute.

If you guys like it and you feel it shows your personality then you should go for it. Don't let anyone else influence what you want. Don't be afraid to show your creative side. If people think it's silly, then thats their problem. But, I feel like most people will really like it.

    Good luck and congrats!!! ♥

I like the idea, and I have a very narrow definition of what "cute" is.

Just an idea, you could have the photo strip down the left side, do the animals to top 3, and you two the last one down. Next to each you can put a word, with a punchline or something for the last one (you). Im not explaining this very well. But I mean, they would read down the card 4 words, or 4 short phrases and the last one would be the kicker, and it would be the one by your picture.

**If your picture is in the middle, and the animals on the side, I dont think it conveys the photo-strip feeling as well, and then yes, it might look dumb.

I have seen something similar to this done for Save the Dates, but all four pictures were of the couple. It was really unique and cute, and definately fit the fun, young personality of the couple. Have you considered having all 4 of the pictures be of you and your fiance? You could do one smiling (normal), one silly (making faces), one of you two kissing (just a peck on the lips or cheek), and and one of you both where you show the ring on your finger. Just a thought, I think it would be really cute that way.

The animals may be cute if you two were major animal-lovers and had a ton of pets yourselves. Otherwise, I don't think it makes a lot of sense to have animal pics instead of more pics of you two.

It may be thoughtful and unique but it isn't amazingly attractive for engagement announcements. The idea will not be remembered or viewed as funny or cute. It is better to go with something traditional than strive for something different and it be a set back. Edit - It is not your mother's wedding, but I think you should show respect to her. At least try to find something your family will enjoy together with you. Remember, too. If you have a loving family, I would trust their opinion. Even though sometimes blunt, they have a greater interest in you than outsiders.

Honestly I don't really like it. How about you do the photo booth shots with just you two in 4 poses maybe 1 where you are by yourselves or one close up on your holding hands. Now that could be pretty cool.

or maybe your guys are makin funny faces at eachother.

Well crap I see that someone else had the same idea I did. I think now that this is something I might like to do. Thanks for the idea.

I can see pros and cons to this. I wouldn't do just one picture of ya'll, I'd alternate so it's be say the first picture of you guys second of two doves, third of you guys, fourth of another animal pair.

Personally the photo strip is a great idea but I'd use four pictures of us doing crazy things.

On the animal aspect you should try to find animals that mate for life to nail in that love of my life theme yanno?

It's your invitation, do what you want. I saw one like a photo booth strip, but it was magnetic. I thought it was a great idea... especially since most people put wedding announcements on the fridge.

I think it would be a better idea to do a photostrip thing of all photos of the two of you. Like one kissing, one just posing, one dancing around, one eating ice cream... I think that would be much much cuter than having animals.

No one cares about seeing pictures of animals :)

I think it would be really cute. sweet too. Oh and whos engagement is it? yours or your mom and brothers? Do what makes YOU and your hubby- to- be happy. If all goes well-this will be your only chance to send out engagement announcements. Live it up!! ;-)

I think it's really cute. It's different and unique. If it's your wedding/engagement, do what you want.

Your mother isn't the future bride here.
