If you want a shopping trolley and kids to school bus its got to be the Range rover, however if you want a utility vehicle that doesn't mind getting wet and muddy, able to tow tractors out of ditches and easy to repair and maintain then its got to be the Disco.
I'm not really biased - honestly.

Depends on what you are looking for.
For off-road use, go for the discovery. The Range Rover is a classy SUV. Both good.

depends on what you are seeking I have driven both. teh range rover is better appointed and gives a more luxury feel to it. the disco is more of a large estate car with normal attributes. It is desighne not to compete with teh upper market of range rovers.
if you intend to do serious off roading though? the disco has the advantage over the range rover. yes both superb off roaders but disco is easier to handle and reponds better than teh slighty larger range rover.
defender is a work horse and beats both offroad and for serious working vehicle but dries on road like a truck.

You can get a fantastic disco 3 for 26K new & save yourself 15k on the RR. Discos are comtable, well appointed and until recently had rock solid residuals. Plus the option of carrying 7 adults in comfort it has to be the Disco everytime.
That said the mrs drives our disco3 and me I potter about in a 95 defender 90.

Range Rover for sure. They are more expensive, but if you can afford it go for it.

Depends on how old a vehicle you are going for.
If you are going for a new vehicle, go for the Landrover - it is basically the same vehicle with the same parts - you could trick out a landrover yourself and still come away with change for the price of a range rover.
If it is older than say 5 years, go for the rangrover - much higher class of vehicle

They're both nice vehicles.
If you're leaning towards the least expensive, it would be the discovery.
