Are there any people on here that think religion is way out of control in our country?
Hi folks I'm an Atheist , I am interested in religion in a, I want to learn why, kind of way. I think religion is way out of control, on the other hand I feel if this is what you choose, and you are better for it? The I support you 100% I am judged because I'm and Atheist, by so called good christians, now how hypocritical is that. So what do you think??
thanks everyone for some great responses, I enjoy these conversations, without name calling and all the negativity that goes with it. Feel free to add me as a favorite. I would like to talk with most of you in the future. thanks

I've met a few athiests in the 3-D world, and I appreciate meeting them. All of them have what's seemingly your attitude, "live and let live."
I agree with you 100%...to have a "good" Christian judge you is ludicrous...and gives the rest of Christianity a bad name.
It's very hypocritical, and I'm sorry for their judgement.

Religion is not out of control, but those who would use religion to judge and persecute others, who use it as a weapon, are out of control.
You say you are judged as an athiest, that is because you do not subscribe to the tennets of an established religion, therefore you are a wild card. Those who base their lives and decisions on a teaching that must be accepted by faith rather than proof are susceptable to questions, which cause them doubt, and so are dangerous. To those who blindly follow by faith, you are dangerous.
Hypocracy when shielding one's faith from the fractures that come with independent thought is an acceptable norm.

I don't think religion itself is out of control.
What is out of controll is fanaticism - whether it be religious or related to other issues.
It is that fanatics that are intollerant, and it is usually the sensible, sane people who try to make sense of things that get targeted.
I don't judge you because you are an atheist - we are all in this world together and sensible decisions on these kind of confusing things are difficult for all of us. Most people don't either, it is just that fanatics are very loud.

There are really only 2 choices either your for spirituality with one supreme being or your against it.
I do agree there are too many 'religions' there is only one true religion; the others are all offshoots of the main branch, at least regarding the one that was founded by Jesus Christ.

The Land letter was a letter sent to U.S. President George W. Bush by five evangelical Christian leaders on October 3, 2002, outlining their theological support for a just war pre-emptive invasion of Iraq. The letter was written by Richard D. Land, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. It was co-signed by Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries, Bill Bright, chairman of Campus Crusade for Christ, James Kennedy, president of Coral Ridge Ministries, and Carl D. Herbster, president of the American Association of Christian Schools.

It really doesn't matter what I think. The way I see it is that we all have our opinions. One would easily give an answer of "yes", and another could say, "No, not enough control". It depends on your view point, and you really won't find a true answer to that.

I used to think Islam was the greatest threat to the United States.
I'm now beginning to think that it's actually Christianity. And if we did away with them, we wouldn't ever hear from the muslims again, anyway. They would sit in their deserts and rot if everyone quit waging a holy war on them.
