All-Time Baseball Fantasy League?

If there was a fantasy league that used every player to ever play in the majors and you had the first pick who would you choose? And why?

No doubt about it, I'd go with Babe Ruth.

    All-time rankings:

    BA - 9th

    HR - 3rd

    RBI - 2nd

    Runs - t-4th

    BB - 3rd

I take a postition where the talent wasn't very deep. Probably 2B, SS or C. So that would leave me with the following options.

Alex Rodriguez (if he qualifies as a SS), Rogers Hornsby, or Mike Piazza

While everybody else is drafting the Mays, Aarons, Cobbs, Ruths, Gehrigs, Hack Wilson(?), etc, I'd be picking Hornsby, Piazza, A-Rod and then later pick up the 10th best rated players at their position like Hank Greenberg, Sam Crawford, Frank Baker, etc. The 1B, OF, and P positions are so deep there is plenty of talented players to go around for everybody.

hack wilson, lou gehrig, babe ruth, ty cobb and billy hamilton

first three where run producing and run scoring machines that put up 150 rbi, 150 runs, 40hr and north of .330 ba. hack's best year was 1930 and lou's had four great season's (1930 - 1934). ruth's 1921 season is still probably the greatest season outside of hack's

the other two were great sb, runs, and ba but didn't get it done with hr and rbi but that's back when hr were only seen as inside the park.

so if i had the first pick it would be hack wilson 1930

    p.s.

a-rod would go home crying from the pressure if he had to play with these guys. plus how many championship has a-h0le won compared to babe, lou, or even albert pujols. hell the only reason hack didn't win championship is because of cubs. what's a-h0le excuse or is he just the highest paid choke artist of all-time.

wouldn't it be cool if ty cobb stole third and spiked pretty boy right in the face

    From a power perspective

Ruth or Gehrig, both really high in average, hrs, rbis, runs.

If it includes OBP, then it's Ruth all the way, but Gehrig got more RBIS because they walked Ruth so much.

    From an average perspective.

Ty Cobb. Not only did he score 120-130 runs, but he got 240+ hits, hit .390, drives in 100 and stole 90 bases.

That high # of hits would increase your overall batting average maybe 15 points.

    Pitching

    Walter Johnson.

The same with Cobb, his high # of innings and his low ERA would make your team ERA very small. Plus, he got a good # of wins, even on bad teams and lots of K's.

Without a doubt Babe Ruth. He has a career avg. of .342 - unheard of for a power hitter. If he played with today's watered down pitching, non-scuffed up balls, and short ballparks the numbers would be rediculous. The fact he hit 714 HR in that era, and missed 3-4 seasons as a pitcher. it's scary how good he would be.

Ty Cobb. Most people don't respect what he did because he was way before their time. If he was on the field today he would be unstoppable. With all due respect to other players like A-Rod and Pujols, they can't match the numbers that he put up, because at that time it wasn't uncommon to see him play all games with an injury. This is a close call, but Ty Cobb would be my choice!

The Splendid Splinter, Ted Williams. The greatest hitter who ever lived. Missed 5 years (In his prime) to service in the Navy. Easily would have been the all time home run hitter.

  • Albert Pujols. I might sound a bit stupid but consider Pujols goes strong until he's say 40 years old. His numbers would match that of babe ruth and the other great hitters of the past.

Baseball Registration starts correct after the Superbowl. it could have began before yet yahoo wanted activities followers to be focusing on the Superbowl rather then the delusion baseball. If registration does not start up on the Monday or Tuesday after the superbowl it is going to likely be no later then mid- February.

Babe Ruth. With all due respect to ARod and Albert, Ruth was the greatest hitter in major league history. He truly dominated the AL for most of his career.
