Is a presidental press secretary legally obligated to not tell falsehoods to the press?

If so, should McClellan be brought up on charges of some kind? At the very least, gross negligence. Possibly even a war crime.

A presidential press conference is not a court of law... you can not perjur yourself in a press conference.

Lying in a press conference is a reflection on the Secretary and the President since he is speaking for the President. It would be a indicator for a administration's approval polls if it effected anything. It would certainly damage a administration's credibility as it did when McClellan said one thing about Rove and Libby in the Plame Affair that was later shown to be a lie.

No, he is not obligated to tell the press the truth.

That is obvious based on what McClellan is doing right now.

Did you know that his new book is published by a company which is controlled by George Soros the anti American Liberal who gave millions to the demoncrats.

    Check it out-

The publisher is Public Affairs Books which is owned by Persues Book Company which is controlled by Soros.

One has to wonder how much McClellan was paid to sign his name to that book just prior to the election..

If Karl Rove did that the Liberals and the media would be screaming that it was politically motivated but since the book is anti Bush the Media love it and feel that, regardless of who put up the money, it is the gospel truth.

Neither the media nor McClellan seem to be encumbered by integrity.

I doubt it. Let the poor fool be. I remember a funny article on him describing how lost he appeared at the podium. They contrasted him with Ari Fleischer. They said the difference was that Fleischer was a great liar and McClellan was obviously not.

No. The job of press secretary is to discuss administration policies and the presidents views, not his own.

Why should he be brought up on any charges. I have yet to hear the WH deny what he said was not true.

Uh, the war crimes are reserved for Bush, Cheney and Rummy.

Blame the messenger, that always makes sense.

You have to prove he is lying with knowledge of said lie.

    Yeah.

I don't know about all of that, but certainly he was comfortable compromising his integrity if any of this is true!
