Sick Infant Upper Respiratory?

My 8 mo old daughter seems to have an upper respiratory infection. (runny nose, cough, painful ears and swollen throat glands) She also ran a fever for a couple days. Is there anything a doctor would do? Most times they don't give babies meds...is there a home remedy?

I dont think you're suppose to give honey to a child under 2 yr old. Dont do that.

they'll give you the antibiotic cause of the ears and swollen glands. She needs to go.

It could be RSV but it is the wrong time of year for that, it could just be that she has a cold, but GP will decide. If she is experiencing painful ears and temp I would advise just getting her checked out by the GP better to be safe than sorry, Babies can suffer these symptoms and have viral infections which may not be treated with anitbiotics, so don't be surprised if she isnt given any, as most infections including bacterial will go on there own between 5-7 days.

In the mean time please DO NOT do any sponging down with cool water, tepid water is better and DO NOT use ice to cool a temp.

THis is not recommended by health care professionals as it can cause the child to go into shock, and a sudden drop in body core temperature increases the risk of fitting. The best thing to do is to keep her cool, strip her off and have a fan going in the room near to her but not directly on her. Her skin may feel cold and she may shiver that is normal, Only do this when the fever is high once it settles you can dress her again if you wish, I don't think i would bother though just put a sheet or blanket over her.

Keep her well hydrated lots of fluids in small amounts quite often, don't worry if she is not taking her solids she will soon catch up when feeling better.

keep giving her regular analgesics (infant paracetamol and infant ibuprofen).

But get her checked out by GP or Nurse practitioner, at your local out of hours surgery. If you spot and rashes or she starts vomiting, screaming, not wanting to be held in the meantime please go straight to your local A&E dept.

    Hope this helps.

Give her some HONEY with water ( little warm but not hot). Chicken broth or vegetable soup is also helpful.

Take her to the hospial. She needs medication. Could be RSV ( respiratory Syntial Virus).

    Ear infection needs Antibiotics.

For fever, give tylenol (Acetaminophan), Call your doctor and ask for right dose.( some pharmacies have Tylenol suppositories. you can use it instead of syrup.

Also, take a wet wash cloth or some T-shirt, wrinkle it to remove excess water and cover her head and fore head with this towel, or T-shirt.

You can use room temperature tap water for this. It will make fever come down. (if fever is very high, then ice cubes in a ziplock bag covered with soft cloh ( t-shirt) works better.

Please take her to the hospital. They might want to admit her.

The child needs to be seen by a physician .. the ear pain being the overriding concern ... antibiotics are going to be possibly needed. The ear pain will not go away quickly without treatment.

    I hope she feels better.
