Which McCain do McCain supporters prefer?

The McCain who:

- almost considered caucusing with the democrats in 2001 and met with Kerry to consider a VP slot in 2004

-voted against the Bush tax cuts in 2001

-opposed the use of waterboarding

-the one who in 1999 said "“in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade.” He explained that overturning Roe would force “women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.”

-called Jerry Falwell "an agent of intolerance” in 2002"

-was against Presidential candidates visiting Bob Jones University?

-supported campaign finance reform legislation?

Or the current version McCain who supports the exact opposite of all of these policies?

If you prefer the old McCain, do you feel like his recent move to the right since 2004 is political pandering to secure the GOP nomination and he is secretly still a moderate, or a sincere change of heart?

I will give McCain points for consistency on supporting the Iraq war initially and staying indefinitely...

Update:

Please answer the question.

The question is not do you prefer new McCain versus Obama, or old McCain versus Obama.

I know this seems like another "baiting question" where I try to convince you to vote for Obama in a roundabout manner, but it really isn't. I'm just curious whether the people supporting McCain (who may or may not think Obama is evil and/or unqualified) prefer the more conservative McCain or the maverick one.

Update 2:

For the record I like the Old McCain, though I am a liberal so of course I like the old McCain better - he was a real moderate on some (though certainly not all) issues. I really respect him for standing up against the Bush tax cuts in 2001, it's too bad he caved (and never really explained why he changed his position).

Update 3:

Still Learning: Good point. I guess to clarify I should say do you prefer the moderate (younger) McCain or the conservative (older) McCain.

Calling 2001 McCain the "old" McCain might lead to confusion, since the "new" McCain of 2008 is really 7 years older.

Update 4:

thanks Atomic, I try to get people to think about what they really support and I'm still honestly interested in learning about how people think and make political decisions

Excellent question. I am still waiting for answers to my question about McCains's record of voting on women's issues... it's like crickets in there...

I'm independent, my dad is a democrat who would have voted for the OLD McCain back in the day when he was a closet dem. You know, back when he had integrity.

    Gofigure.

So there two McCains and one of them is the older?

I would have to choose the younger of the two versions, since McCain needs all the help he can get with his age.

McCain should just sit still and keep his mouth shut and just wait for the Democrats to destroy themselves.

    He doesn't need to campaign.

The one that is not Obama

There are a great many of us out here that dont support McCain but find him to be the one that will do the least damage.
