What is the point of the "politics" category in Yahooo! Answers?

So many of the categories here have sincere questions with thoughtful and/or informative answers. Here, it seems that almost every "question" is just a jab at someone in disguise, and the answers are all back-and-forth one-liners. This is an honest question: do you feel this is a good way to discuss politics? Do you think anything is accomplished this way? (As for me, I've found myself doing the same thing, and I've discovered it's really not much fun, and I don't feel like it's contributing anything positive or productive.)

This isn't meant to attack anyone. I really have been thinking about this and would like others' thoughts. Thanks.

Update:

Yeah, I know there's an extra "o" in "Yahoo" in my question. Maybe my "o" key stuck. Or something.

I agree with you. I only come in this category when I'm in a decent mood to begin with, otherwise it is so depressing - - the sheer level of hostility and lack of real information. Not to mention actual education or sense of history.

What is worse, is I think the community "censorship" here is far worse - if someone doesn't like your opinion they report you for bogus reasons. This and the religion category are the WORST.

I had a fantasy once where there was a category for bashing each others' beliefs and a separate one for real discussion (but you'd have to pass a basic knowledge test to do that one LOL)

If more people like you would hang out here, we might be able to turn it into something productive. As it is, it's a playground for trash talkers who think their contribution to society is to spread lies and propaganda.

I have no idea why they feel that abusing a chance to exchange ideas is productive or will accomplish anything. I guess they feel if they make enough noise some people will listen. They don't, and won't but I'm sure in their minds they think they're converting people to their way of thinking.

Anyway, I hear you. It would be nice if the political boards were like the other boards - respectful and intelligent, but they're not. If you search and respond to good questions (and ask good questions), you will find some thoughtful people such as yourself.

For me, it just feels good to voice my opinion in a non-threatening forum. In other words, I don't have to argue back and forth, which I don't enjoy. I just get to say my views. I do think it's interesting also to hear what other people have to say. Sometimes I can hardly believe the different points of view, but that's what makes the world go 'round. But I see your point. I guess it's just a matter of preference.

The problem is nothing good comes out of discussing politics ever....you'll usualy never change someone's mind nor will you gain anything out of arguing with them...i guess people just need a place to tell other people how they feel about things

i became into thinking the comparable factor! why can we lose 5 factors for asking a question (and wanting to assessment extra) and in basic terms get 2 as quickly as we answer one (assisting persons study) i additionally choose for to be point 2, yet a hundred stars is a quite good form of.....

I think it is less expressing an opinion and more as calling the other partyt a bunch of so-and-so, ending up in a verbal free-for-all

I agree. 99% of these "questions" are political rhetoic. But I ask a legitiminate question, it gets deleted.
