Is this ASVAB score good????
My husband is trying to get back into the military with me and I know that they look at your GT score when choosing an MOS. He has already served 4 years as an Army infantry soldier and he wants to change his MOS to something active but more relaxed, I was wondering if his scores I posted below are good enough to change his MOS or if he should just take it again???
Keep in mind that if these scores are good enough to change from infantry and he does take the ASVAB again and ends up with a lower score he won't be able to get these scores back and the military will stick with his most updated test.
So basically just two questions
1. Are the scores posted below good enough to get a MOS other then infantry?
2. Should he take the ASVAB again and try to get higher?
GT 92
GM 105
EL 101
CL 97
MM 107
SC 100
CO 104
FA 104
OF 104
ST 100

They are absolutely good enough to get out of the Infantry (BTW, they are amazingly consistent). If he wants to raise his GT score, he needs to specifically work on math and verbal - those are clearly his weak spots as opposed to the individual "skill sets". A GT of 110 will allow you to do pretty much anything you want ... right now, he MIGHT be excluded from jobs such as Combat Medic, which the Army *states* requires a GT of 110.
However, when "Army needs (i.e. demand)" outstrip "supply", you'd be surprised at how flexible their requirements become. A lot of MOS are available to him -- do you have an idea of what he might want to do? If you post that, I could probably tell you more of whether he would "qualify" or not.
I really don't think he would hurt himself by studying up on the basics of math and verbal and giving it another shot (assuming he didn't already do this the first time) -- it's unlikely that the other scores would be lowered and he might find his GT up over the 100 range with a little work.
Good luck and thanks to him for serving!

Yes, the ASVAB is timed and you can't use a calculator. The test isn't too bad but that depends on your test taking skills and general knowledge of various subjects. I recommend getting one of these prep books
It can make a big difference in how well you do since you'll know exactly what to expect on the test. The higher your score, the more opportunities you'll have and the better jobs you can qualify for so don't take the test lightly just because some people say it's easy. There's a big difference between doing okay and doing extremely well.
The prep/study book will get you used to the timing of the test so you know how long to spend on each question and get used to the time pressure you'll be under. They give you everything you need to know to do well. Good luck!

My experience is that a GT score over 110 is the key to getting the best jobs. His scores here are pretty "average," which is to say that he may get most jobs. You only need below average to qualify for infantry. Check for cut-off scores for the ASVAB.
My own GT score was 127. My recruiter gave me a big smile and said, "So what do you want to do and where do you want to go?" I decided to be a medic in Korea (My second choice. Journalist had a 1-year waiting list!). Like I said, the scores aren't great, and they aren't bad. Just don't expect him to be offered a Green-to-Gold program.

Well the Line scores are actually pretty good. The GT score is what determines the jobs such as 18x(special forces) GT score is widely looked at for an overall jobs qualification.
But the lines scores is everything you listed below the gt score.
Those scores are what determines his overall "list" of jobs hell be qualified for.
But when youre considering jobs in a whole you have to think about security clearances also if hes already got a secret or top secret clearance then his list of jobs will be fairly big.
So your best bet is to tell him to go to meps and see what he qualifies for.
I say hell be fine unless he wants somethin like diver or special forces or medic.
Hope this helps out a bit.

92 is too low for most MOS's - usually to get free choice you need a 110. GT is the most commonly used score and without going home and going through my records I cant tell you if the others are good but they look ok.
I believe 130 is the highest for a GT score and I knew a prick that had one- I had 124.
I also had a friend who recieved a 99 on the ASVAB itself which is the highest- I had a 91.
Many of my students at school have ASVAB scores down in the 50s

tell him to ask the recruiter about a 'fast tracking program' .... it will give him a chance to raise his GT score, and that is the one that decided what MOS will be available to him. You need at least a 100 GT score to have the better opportunities

Those scores are pretty good. I think 110 might have been better. But those should keep him out of infantry.
