What are some great places to stay at, and cool things to do in Seattle?
I'm taking a trip to Seattle,WA at the end of October, and I would love to find some info on where I should stay, and what I should do while i'm there. What are some "musts and can't miss attractions" when in Seattle? Where are the best hotels? I need a hotel that is going to be family friendly yet have some great amenities for a modest price. I would love to find out the local hotspots, or just any info that a local could provide about the city. Info about out of the way places that only locals would know of would be awesome! I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks.
Also, would it be better to stay in downtown Seattle? Or should we stay on the outskirts of the city? Should we travel to a nearby city? Our flight is into Seattle, and we certainly want to tour the city, but we don't neccessarily HAVE to stay in the city for the entire trip. Is there a nicer area outside of the city as well?

Hmm... What might be going on at the end of October. Kind of in between festivals that I can think of... Oktoberfest and Bumbershoot behind, Winterfest not quite started until November...
Must-see attractions kind of depend on your interests, but I'll throw out a few:
<<Space Needle>> It's touristy, yes, it's gonna be cloudy in October, probably, but it's just one of those things you should really do! I even try to make friends that live here go if they haven't before. The sweeping views are breathtaking and the restaurant up there is actually decent and has been for a few years now.
A Seahawks game. If you can get tickets to a Seahawks game while you are here, def do not pass up that opportunity! Watching the Seahawks play in Qwest Field is a real experience and has gotten a lot of people I know who have absolutely no interest in Football or sports in general totally pumped up! It's really fun (and really loud!)! Even the nosebleed seats are exciting to be in!
Pike Place Market is another one of those must-see things. Everybody knows to go check it out, but it's really as cool as they say. Farmer's Market, fresh fish, produce, and gifts, restaurants, the first Starbucks, the works! It's a place you def should visit!
The Fremont Troll was just on some list of MSN's oddest oddities or something like that for the US, in like 10th place or so. It's a pretty cool (and pretty big) troll statue (like under the bridge, not fuzzy-haired) that sits under the Aurora Bridge in Fremont. It's a cool thing to take pictures with and though there's not much to do right there besides look at it and photography moments, it's close to downtown and a couple blocks away from Fremont, which is full of cool and quirky shops and bars and great eats! Check out the Fremont area regardless as to whether you look at the troll!
Oh yeah, additionally... On where to stay, it will depend on your travel mode. Being downtown would be convenient as you could pretty much walk everywhere you wanted to go or hop a bus for $2 or less. Seattle's downtown is very small, in comparison to many other cities, so it's easily walkable. Being on the outskirts of the city would also not be a problem, but you might find easier if you had a rental car. Parking downtown isn't fun, though, unless you know where to go or are willing to pay through the nose for it!
